The fact that the COP is being held in the Amazon is part of the inspiration behind the Anglican Communion’s Lungs for the Earth Campaign and the national church are encouraging churches to get behind this Campaign. We understand how forests are like lungs, absorbing CO2 and giving off oxygen. The Anglican Communion Office has been sharing an environmental call to restore the 'Lungs of the Earth'. Part of this initiative is to amplify how Anglicans are going about restoring and protecting three vital ecosystems: forests, oceans and frozen landscapes.  See the Anglican Communion's website for more information.

Greenpeace write, 'Did you know: 1 in 10 of all known species on Earth live in the Amazon, making it one of the most biodiverse places on the planet? [1] And that’s just the tip of the iceberg – every year, new species are being discovered. In 2024, scientists found a swimming mouse with webbed feet, a dwarf squirrel and 10 new butterfly species. [2] Who knows what mysteries we’re yet to uncover!' Test your knowledge of these rainforest residents!

Hannah Eves, a climate campaigner who works for Tearfund and will attend next month’s COP30 in Brazil, says: ‘After years of host countries with limited civil society engagement, it is exciting to see Brazilian civil society able to make a big noise for climate action. On 14 September, environmental charity Christian Climate Action are organising a day of prayer for the Church of England, with people gathering peacefully outside cathedrals, with the aim of praying for the church to be a force in the climate emergency. The charity will also be releasing a booklet with the same aim.

Connecting people sleeping rough to local services

Cornwall Council support available

If a child (under 19) needs someone to talk to because of anything which has upset them, including abuse, they can speak free and confidentially to Childline which is run by the NSPCC.
Children can ring Childline on 0800 1111 and speak to trained counsellors about any problems they may face. Calls to childline are free and do not show up on the phone bill. If children set up a childline account on their phone, they can have access to childline’s 1-2-1 counsellor chat.
The childline website also provides information and advice about a range of issues.

In medieval times, Fowey became a departure point for pilgrims on their way to Rome and then later, to Santiago de Compostela, in Spain.

St Piran was a 5th century saint who travelled to Cornwall from Ireland and made his home here amongst the dunes.

Saint Nectan was a 6th century Welsh saint who lived in Cornwall and Devon. On this pilgrimage you will follow in Saint Nectan’s footprints.

St Enodoch was a 6th Century saint who travelled to Cornwall from her home in Wales to tell the Cornish people all about Christianity.

Saint Carantoc was a 5th century saint who founded a monastery in Cornwall where the village of Crantock can be found.

Pilgrims have visited St Michael’s Mount for hundreds of years, believing it to be a holy place.

The church at Gunwalloe is said to be on the site of a 6th century monastery. Legend has it that St Winwaloe sailed from Brittany in France to Cornwall and landed on this beach. He lived in a hut among the sand dunes, where there is now a bell tower.

Saint Mawes was a Christian teacher from Brittany, who arrived in Cornwall in 550AD. There is a legend about him which you will read as you go on this pilgrimage.

Generosity week is a week focussed on generosity, aiming to encourage and inspire, and nurture a culture of generosity in the church. FIKA is a Swedish term meaning to gather together for sharing, discussion and cake! It is a half day programme, for groups to explore God's generosity to us, biblical generosity and generosity around the world. Through short films, reflections and discussion we can be inspired and encouraged to live more generous lives. FIKAs can be an enormously effective way of developing a generous culture within your church.

Here you will find some excellent resources to help you encourage generosity as discipleship in your church. There are resources for individual and group bible study, preaching and retreats or focus days.

Through the CPO website you can order free samples and low cost resources such as leaflets, bookmarks and posters to encourage legacy giving. There is also the opportunity to personalise some of the leaflets for your church.

The Church of England has partnered with Farewill, the UK’s favourite will writer, to offer a free online will writing service which you can do from the comfort of your home in less than 30 minutes. The Diocese of Truro has received a number of free wills through this scheme and you can use one of these by following the link below, or entering the code ‘TRURO-DIOCESE’ at the check-out. Making a will and keeping it updated is the only way to make sure your wishes are carried out after your death, giving you peace of mind that you can continue to support the family, friends and charities you love.

Each year around 4,000 people leave a gift in their will to their church, funding mission projects, maintaining beautiful church buildings and growing faithful communities. This can be a final opportunity to say thank you to God for all he has given to us. This webinar wills look at how and why we may encourage will writing and legacy giving in our churches. It covers the resources available to write a legacy policy, plan a legacy campaign and help people with will writing, and introduces a new free will writing scheme.

The use of social media, websites, and online directories is changing the way we communicate in many ways. Bereavement services across Cornwall have united to create a new Cornwall Bereavement Network website and helpline.
In response to COVID-19, organisations from across Cornwall have been meeting virtually to accelerate their plans for a joined-up approach to bereavement services across Cornwall, so that people who suffer the loss of a loved one can quickly and easily find information.
Around 85 organisations have already signed up to the network including counselling services, hospice care, funeral services, NHS and council services, support groups, faith groups, and professional support services.

The website provides council domestic abuse and sexual violence resources. This includes information about adult recovery programmes such as the SUsie programme, the Safer Futures response team and support from Independent Domestic Abuse Advisors (IDVAs).

Domestic abuse resources including finding out what classes as domestic abuse, how to report it and how, under Clare’s Law, you can find out if a partner has a history of domestic violence or abuse.

The Women’s centre offer empowering support to women and girls living with the impact of sexual and domestic abuse. This includes support for those who have been affected by any form of child sexual abuse, domestic abuse or sexual violence including rape, sexual assault or sexual harassment at any time in their life. They also offer support to women affected by stalking, harassment, female genital mutilation/cutting, forced marriage, so-called ‘honour-based’ abuse and exploitation.

Supports women and men who have been sexually abused, as children or adults, by ministers, clergy or others under the guise of the Church. They also offer a telephone and email helpline for victims and survivors of Minister and Clergy sexual abuse – and for relatives of victims and survivors.

The Survivors Trust is a national membership organisation supporting specialist rape and sexual abuse services in the voluntary sector. We have over 120 member organisations throughout the UK and Ireland who provide specialist support services to over 100,000 survivors each year.

Their member agencies provide a range of specialist services to survivors including counselling, support, helplines and advocacy services for women, men, non-binary people and children. These agencies are mostly charities and are completely independent of the police.
