AMD2

A few members of the AMD2 cohort discussing progress

Accompanied Ministry Development is a programme designed to encourage, bless and challenge the people of God as we discover God’s Kingdom and grow the church. Focused on supporting both clergy and their congregations to respond to God’s call to share the good news of Jesus Christ with their communities, AMD provides opportunities to share challenges and joys, learn from others and to experience the support from one another.

The programme has been running successfully for four years and in 2018 is moving into a new format, AMD2. The revised programme will offer clergy and their parishes, time and resources to explore themes relevant to their contexts and culture. The clergy in each cohort will meet to agree their shared priorities, and to design the content of their programme to help them work on those priorities.

We asked three participants of the first cohort to say what being part of the new AMD programme means for them and their parishes.

Revd Fr Simon Bone (Eight Saints Cluster)

“We have a lot of occasional visitors and noticed how our numbers went up, particularly over Christmas. We need to look at why and how we can capitalise on that, to disciple them.”

Revd Emma Watson (St Cuby and Cornelly Church, Tregony)

“We got to a point in our church where we wanted to look at a new way of moving forward, to re-explore our vision. We hope to connect more with families and children across the parish. We want to explore why certain groups connect more easily than others, and what we can do to communicate and better engage with those who were perhaps not seeing what we are doing as relevant to their lives. Taking part in AMD2 means being a member of a supportive group where we can explore those ideas. It’s really good to have that support as you move into a new place in your parish.”

Revd Steve Robinson (Rector of St Illogan, St Mary’s and Trevenson Church)

“We enjoyed AMD 1 and thought it very helpful.  From that we set a number of priorities and projects, which we’re still working through, so, for me, AMD2 is taking a look at those projects, examining them and deciding the direction that our parish is going in for the next few years. We’ve set ourselves three projects, but current discussions are more about young people, their work and how we can keep growing.”
