Truro Cathedral has this month signed up to join the Diocese of Truro’s Parish Giving Scheme.DSC02340

The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) is a national initiative which has been set up to help parishes manage their regular donations.

There are currently 23 parishes across the Diocese of Truro signed up to the scheme which allows donors to give by Direct Debit on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. Donations, including any Gift Aid, go straight back to the parish chosen by the donor within ten days of collection.

Revd Canon Alan Bashforth, Canon Chancellor, said: “It is good for us at the cathedral to be involved with the diocese on this initiative. Joining PGS will allow everyone at the cathedral to re-assess their giving, give in the most tax efficient way possible, and even opt to have their giving rise in line with inflation year on year. It also brings the additional benefit of the gift aid being claimed on our behalf and regularly paid to us, which helps with day to day budgeting and saves time in our accounts office. It is certainly the ‘gold standard’ way to give now and I hope that a great many people will see the obvious benefits of switching from their present mode of giving to giving in this way.”

Liz Wallace, Stewardship and MAPping Advisor for the diocese, said: “I’m delighted the Cathedral has seen the benefits of the Parish Giving Scheme and joined the growing number of parishes signing up.

“PGS has many advantages from the ease of administration to the ease of Gift Aid collection and another unique feature is the option for the donor to commit in principle to increase their gift annually in line with inflation. Whilst this is a voluntary decision, it is one that could potentially have a huge impact on the life and future of the church.”
