Candidates begin final preparations for ordination
Nine people have begun the final countdown to their ordination this weekend.
Seven people are to be ordained as deacons on Friday at Truro Cathedral, and two will be priested on Saturday.
The candidates today (Tuesday) met for a social lunch in the sunshine hosted by Bishop Chris at Lis Escop, with their partners, spouses, and young children. Others at the lunch included Archdeacon Audrey, Dean of Truro Roger Bush, and individuals who have been involved in their ministry training, and their selection and preparation for ordination.
Allegiance
Bishop Chris then officiated as they then swore their oaths of allegiance to the church and to the Bishop of Truro. They then said goodbye to their family members and headed off for a retreat that will end shortly before their ordination.
In the Anglican Church Petertide, also known as St Peter’s Tide, is the major one of two traditional periods for the ordination of new priests and is held on the Sunday nearest to St Peter’s Day.
This year the Revd Rachel Monie and the Revd Ian Gulland will be priested and the seven being made Deacon are Graham Adamson, Linda Garthwaite, Tess Lowe, Ben Morgan-Lundie, Alex Sharp, Richard Wallis and Stephen Williams.
The service for the ordination of deacons is at 7.30pm on Friday, June 29 and the service for priests is at 10.30am on Saturday, June 30.
