lightstock_160956_medium_truro_ croppedA rare opportunity for people from across the diocese to have access to a community mentoring programme which pairs trained volunteer mentors with young people who need help realising their potential is being offered on a first come first served basis.

XL-Mentoring is a community mentoring project which pairs trained volunteer mentors with young people who need help realising their potential. It equips your church or organisation to build authentic and intentional relationships with young people and their families.

The two day training, which takes place at Duchy College in Stoke Climsland, will teach you how to train and sustain a group of volunteers to mentor young people in your community. It takes place on the evening of Friday, February 20, and during the day on Saturday, February 21. The training is being offered at £20 per person, which includes supper on the Friday and lunch on Saturday (but ability to pay should not prevent people from applying).

To apply for a place, please contact Kathryn Carnegie on kate.carnegie@virgin.net or call 01579 370187. For more information about XLM, please visit http://xlm.org.uk/

Kathryn says: “We train all of our XLM Coordinators on how to effectively manage and encourage mentoring relationships that make the most of their time together. Our resources include information on how to match a mentor and mentee, ways to conduct regular supervisions, how to evaluate the impact of the mentoring relationship, best practice methods to help sustain the relationship and navigate challenge, and steps to ensure a healthy ending for both the mentor and mentee.”
