Introduction
The Diocese of Truro is seeking a prayerful, visionary and collaborative priest to serve as the next Archdeacon of Bodmin. Covering six of our 12 deaneries this is a pivotal leadership role at the heart of eastern Cornwall’s church communities — supporting, inspiring and equipping clergy and laity to flourish in mission and ministry.
About the Role
As Archdeacon, you’ll work closely with the Bishops, the Archdeacon of Cornwall, and the wider senior team to:
- Lead the implementation of deanery and diocesan plans for change and renewal
- Support clergy and parishes through transitions, recruitment, and pastoral reorganisation
- Champion safeguarding, clergy wellbeing, and healthy church cultures
- Encourage pioneering ministry and whole-life discipleship
- Oversee HR casework and statutory archidiaconal responsibilities
- Serve as Diocesan Director for Growing Younger, placing children and young people at the heart of church life
This is a role for someone who delights in rural ministry, thrives on complexity, and brings both strategic insight and pastoral warmth.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a priest with:
- At least six years in holy orders
- Proven leadership in growing healthy, faithful and fruitful churches
- Experience across different traditions and settings, especially rural
- Strong safeguarding, people management, and conflict resolution skills
- A passion for our “Growing Younger” vision
- A love for Cornwall’s people, unique culture, heritage and communities
