St Probus and St Grace church in Probus near Truro has become one of the first churches in the diocese to be awarded a grant from the Minor Repairs and Improvements grant fund. The church is using the funds to carry out some essential repair works to its north wall drainage.

The Grade 1 Listed church, with origins dating back to the 1500s, received a £9,000 grant in support of its building works to reduce damp issues in the church. This is one of the first steps in a much larger renovation project which will help protect the fabric of the building for generations to come.

Probus Church has a proactive buildings team, a group of volunteers who have come together to support the repair of the church. Churchwarden, Steve Dalton, is supported by Andy McCartney and Paul Edwardes who have been working with Truro-based architects, Scott & Co. to develop a large-scale renovation project.

Faye Edwardes, Church Building Support Officer, says: ‘It has been a pleasure to work with Probus Church on this project, and the other repair works that they have undertaken over the past few months. The team has been brilliant at securing funding and progressing the repair works, so we have already seen significant progress this year. The Minor Repairs and Improvements grant is intended to be used on work that protect the fabric of our incredible churches, and we already have several exciting projects underway across the diocese.”
