On a warm blustery Sunday evening the festivities began at Mawgan with a ‘bring and share’ tea party in the Recreation Hall to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.2016 06 12 14 Feast Sunday - Thanksgiving at Memoria El P1020578

After a delicious tea, a huge cake, featuring a portrait of the Queen, baked by six ladies from the village and decorated by Ali Rand, was cut by Lady Vyvyan. Then glasses of bubbly were raised for a toast to Her Majesty proposed by Parish Council Chairman, Kevin Roberts.

Mawgan Feast Week officially started with over 50 people gathered for a Thanksgiving service at the War Memorial led by the Revd Steve Swann and accompanied by the Gweek Silver Band.

The hymns were accompanied by the Gweek Silver Band and after the service everyone returned to the the Recreation Hall where the Band entertained, with a variety of music concluding, inevitably, with Happy Birthday.

Sadly it was too windy for the band to play outside so some of the louder numbers raised the rafters. A rousing start to an exciting week and so fortuitous that HM chose the start of Mawgan Feast Week to celebrate her Birthday.
