A service celebrating Lay Ministry was held at Truro Cathedral over the weekend.

The cathedral was full as Local Worship Leaders, Lay Pastoral Ministers, Local Pioneer Leaders, and Local Lay Leaders along with friends and family attended the annual service which recognises and celebrates the work of the diocese’s commissioned lay ministers.

Nine Local Pastoral Ministers, seven Local Worship Leaders, and four Local Lay Leaders were commissioned into their roles by Bishop Hugh Nelson during the service. They were joined by 17 Local Pastoral Ministers, and 12 Local Worship Leaders who were recommissioned.

Lydia Remick, one of the diocesan Lay Ministry Development Officers, said after the service: “It was wonderful to see so many people in Truro Cathedral to celebrate and give thanks for the vital work of our lay ministers. There are so many unsung heroes who give their time and energies to our parishes and communities, to highlight them in this service we hope goes some way to ensuring they know how valued and appreciated they are.”
