The Archbishop of Canterbury has confirmed this morning (Wednesday, September 9, 2020) that there will be no change to guidance on places of worship.

Following the government’s announcement last night that social gatherings of more than six people will be illegal in England from Monday, the Church of England sought clarification regarding worship services.

In a brief statement this morning, the archbishop said:

“After contact with Government we hear that there is no change to guidance on places of worship. Worship is the work of God – not a social gathering – and gives the strength to love and serve.”
