Glebe Management Committee Member
Are you passionate about good stewardship, rural land, and supporting the long‑term mission and ministry of the Church? We are seeking a volunteer member to join our Glebe Management Committee, which oversees the care, use, and strategic management of glebe property across the diocese.
About the Role
As a committee member, you will help ensure that our glebe assets are managed responsibly, transparently, and in line with charitable and Church of England obligations. Tasks include:
- Supporting sustainable land stewardship and environmental good practice
- Scrutinise the implementation of the diocesan Glebe strategy. Priorities being financial returns, delivery of housing, biodiversity and carbon, commercial assets and community benefit.
- Contributing to decisions on leasing, sales, tenancy issues, and land management
- Reviewing reports on property condition, valuations, and income performance
- Providing informed, balanced advice to support diocesan governance
- Attending 4 meetings per year (usually weekday daytime, hybrid/online options available)
Who We’re Looking For
You do not need to be a property professional, though experience in one or more of the following areas would be valuable:
- Rural land management or agriculture.
- Property, surveying, planning, or asset management.
- Finance, governance, or charity trusteeship.
- Environmental sustainability or biodiversity.
- Legal or commercial experience.
We would particularly value someone with commercial property experience.
Most importantly, you’ll bring sound judgment, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to good stewardship in support of the Church’s mission.

- The roles are not remunerated, but volunteers are encouraged to reclaim all necessary expenses of office. This includes things like travel, stationery and childcare to attend meetings.
