Vacancy in See
This is a statutory committee which has a permanent existence but only meets during a vacancy in see, i.e. when there is a vacancy in the diocesan bishopric. Its key role is to produce a Diocesan Statement of Needs and elect members of the Crown Nominations Committee.
Those to be elected:
- Archdeaconry of Bodmin, Clergy: 3 candidates
- Archdeaconry of Bodmin, Laity: 3 candidates
- Archdeaconry of Cornwall, Clergy: 1 candidate
- Archdeaconry of Cornwall, Laity: 3 candidates
The clergy and lay members are elected by the separate Houses and Archdeaconries of the Diocesan Synod.
Those eligible for election are:
- Any Clerk in Holy Orders beneficed in or licensed to any parish in the Diocese and resident in the relevant Archdeaconry is eligible to stand for election to the Board. Archdeacons in the Diocese are not qualified to be elected.
- Any lay person aged 16 +, on the electoral roll and a communicant member of the Church of England, and resident in the relevant Archdeaconry, is eligible to stand for election to the Board.
Nomination forms, instructions for complete of forms and more about the calculations for election can be found below.
Candidates for the Vacancy in See Committee may set out, in no more than 100 words, a factual statement (for circulation with the voting papers) of their professional qualifications, present office and any relevant past experience. Such statements should be sent to April Bullard with the candidate’s nomination form, and will be circulated to voters in the event of an election. It would be helpful if they could be provided in electronic format.
The deadline for nominations is midnight on July 20, 2025.
