CMED Training Day- ‘Atonement Theories- And Why We Don’t Need Them?’

28th November 2014 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

‘Atonement Theories- And Why We Don’t Need Them?’
with Revd Canon Dr Stephen Dawes
The Big Question the first Christians faced was ‘Why did Jesus the Messiah die?’ because dying was not in the official script.  So they ransacked their theological resources for explanations and came up with a rich variety of ideas, metaphors, explanations, illustrations and parables. In this Study Day we will look at that process, explore and critique a variety of Atonement Theories, and ask if some of them haven’t seriously and catastrophically missed the Biblical point.
