Throughout this year, the Diocese of Truro will be running a series of five workshops on the theme of Net Zero 2030: Cut Carbon, Cut Costs.

The workshops will be a mix of online and in-person sessions. You are welcome to join us for one, some or all. Booking is separate for each one.

Full details are below:

Session 1: Why do we need to achieve Net Zero by 2030?

Thursday, 9 February at 7pm – 9pm via Zoom.

Session 2: Buildings – Walk & Talk Audit at St Andrew’s Church, Clinton Road, Redruth TR15 2LL

Thursday, March 23, 11am – 1pm.

Our second session will see us meeting together in a Cornish church with Matt Fulford, Director of Inspired Efficiency and an experienced senior advisor on energy, carbon and sustainability issues. Matt will take us on a ‘walk and talk’ around the building, including using a drone to explore hard to reach areas such as the roof and boiler room. There will also be presentations to listen to as we build our knowledge and understanding of how to conduct audits and complete efficiency audits of our buildings. This session is especially recommended for church wardens.

The Diocese of Truro has over 300 church buildings, 86% of which are listed and subject to the Faculty Jurisdiction Rules.  The changes to the Faculty rules have made gaining permission for certain Net Zero Carbon matters easier (with appropriate conditions) but permissions are still/may be required so always check with the DAC Secretary.

Session 3: How do we achieve Net Zero 2030 with our church buildings – the dos and don’ts!

Egloshayle Church, Wadebridge PL27 6AD

Tuesday, May 9, from 11am – 1pm

Book your place here

Our third workshop of the series builds on session two, as we get to grips with the question of how we achieve Net Zero 2030 carbon within our church buildings. We will explore the key ‘dos and don’ts’ and consider what changes are right for each of our buildings. This session will have representatives of the DAC and a RIBA Conservation Architect present.

Session 4: Applying for funding – an online practical session

Thursday, June 15, from 11am – 12.30pm.

Having explored the options for achieving Net Zero 2030 carbon in our buildings, it’s time to plan and fund our projects. In this session we will explore the types of funding available for energy efficiency and renewable and low carbon technologies and look at some top tips for making successful funding applications.
