Windows Into Eco-Theology

18th January 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The urgency of the environmental challenges the world faces has come particularly to the forefront of many people’s minds over the course of 2020.  During the pandemic many people have become more deeply aware of their connection with the natural world around them, others have spent time watching the TV programmes of Sir David Attenborough and others and some have felt drawn, with Extinction Rebellion and other groups, to call on governments to do more to protect our vital natural heritage. In the Church also, efforts to care better for God’s creation have been stepped up this year, not least through the challenge given to the Church of England by General Synod to aim to be ‘Net Zero’ in our activities by 2030.

What resources do the Bible and Christian theology offer us as we reflect on this topic of ever-pressing urgency to all of us? Windows into Eco-Theology aims to equip us with some of the theological tools to think these issues through for ourselves and for our Christian communities. This is a parish-level theology course, with no prior knowledge of theology being assumed; as a ‘Windows Plus’ course, some familiarity with the Bible and basic Christian teaching is helpful, though not essential.

The course will be run over six Monday evenings and will be delivered by the Rev’d Elly Sheard via Zoom.  7.30 to 9.30 pm on January 18 & 25, February 1, 8, 15 and 22.
