Cornwall Community Flood Forum Annual Conference

2nd November 2018

Cornwall Community Flood Forum will be holding its popular annual conference this year on Friday, November 2. Once again we’ve secured an engaging line-up of national and local thinkers currently working at the heart of community resilience and climate change.

This year’s overarching theme is Natural Capital – that is, our natural assets including forests, rivers, land, minerals and oceans. We’ll be looking in particular at the elements of natural capital that protect our homes, livelihoods and wildlife from hazards such as flooding. We will also hear about the outlook for flooding over the next ten years from partner organisations.

Of course we’ll also be focussed on community resilience in Cornwall as we prepare for winter.  There’ll be reflections from Cornwall Council, the Environment Agency and the National Flood Forum.  We’ll also be announcing new hands-on support from CCFF to help Cornish communities put together flood plans and volunteer groups and we’ll hear about the recent experiences of Portreath Flood Group.  We’ll be launching a new easy-to-use website with all the resources a new flood group needs to get started.

The current list of confirmed speakers includes George Eustice (Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food), John Pegg (National Flood Forum), Mark Summers (Cornwall Catchment Partnership), Dave Watkins (Cornwall Council), Janet Lockyer (CCFF), Arthur Roberts (Cornwall Council), Joyce Duffin (Portreath Flood Group) and Philip Rees (South West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee).

Due to the popularity of this free event, we’re moving this year to a larger venue – Truro Methodist Church in Union Place – but places will still be limited so please put the date in your diary and reserve your place now by clicking on the link:
