Heated cushions for three churches in the diocese
Three churches in the diocese have won a heated cushion after submitting a 100% complete Energy Footprint Toolkit before the end of March.
Although the official deadline for handing in the data is not until the end of June, staff on the Diocese of Truro Buildings and Environment team decided to run a competition to get ahead of the game.
It was promised that those who completed their Energy Footprint Toolkit (EFT) before Easter would be put in a prize draw to win a Munich heat cushion.
As of March 31, 75 churches entered their EFT results in time and were entered into the competition.
The winners, randomly selected on April 14, were St John the Evangelist, Treslothan, St Martin of Tours and Werrington, St Pol-de-Lion, Paul.
Faye Edwardes, the diocese’s Church Buildings Officer, said: “Thank you so much to all the churches who completed their Energy Footprint Tool before March 31, and congratulations to the winners of the cushions.”
Sharon Willoughby, Diocesan Environment Officer, said: “Heated cushions are a great way to support congregations on their Creation Care journey, helping to cut carbon emissions by warming the person rather than the space.”
Completing the EFT is part of the Church of England’s shared journey to Net Zero by 2030, which helps to create baseline data from which the Diocese of Truro can report progress to the national church. The EFT measures the carbon footprints of all in-scope buildings within the Church of England. This will enable the General Synod to monitor progress towards the target of net zero emissions by 2030.
Faye added: “We’re hoping to get 90% completing an EFT this year. This data is really important to us because it helps support carbon reduction initiatives.”
Rosey Sanders, Operations and Project Assistant at Diocese of Truro, said: “Please do get in touch with me if you have any questions regarding the EFT. You will need your utility bills for 2025. The EFT can be completed online or via paper form. I am here to help you, so do contact me if you need any assistance.”
The deadline for completion of the EFT is 28th June so there is still time to complete your church’s EFT.
