Wellbeing is a top priority for the Diocese of Truro which offers its clergy and staff free counselling services and welcomes General Synod showing support to all dioceses offering provision.

The Church of England’s governing body last month voted for all clergy to be able to access counselling and therapy. This news was celebrated by those at Diocese of Truro who have found free counselling services a ‘huge benefit’.

For nearly 20 years the diocese has provided a confidential and professional service available to all diocesan clergy, diocesan staff and their families.

The Revd Canon Jane Vaughan-Wilson, Bishop’s Advisor in Pastoral Care & Counselling, said: “The diocesan counselling service provides ten free sessions to any clergy and staff who wish to take it and covers issues including stress, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, addictions, loss and bereavement, or burn out.”

Louise Court, Director of HR at Diocese of Truro, added: “As well as our dedicated diocesan counselling service, all clergy and staff have access to our employee assistance programme which not only provides more counselling options but can support staff with legal, financial and other advice and resources. They are both a key part of our broader wellbeing offer. I welcome the spotlight the General Synod has shone on this important area.”
