People encouraged to think Fairtrade this Creationtide
Creationtide is the annual event in the Church of England’s calendar to celebrate God’s creation and renew a promise to look after our planet.
Many churches hold special services to mark the event, which runs from September 1 to October 4.
In this series we are highlighting some of the ways people in the Diocese of Truro care for creation.
Fairtrade fortnight falls during Creationtide this year and many people across the diocese are supporting the event.
From September 22 – October 5, people will be highlighting the importance of buying Fairtrade by hosting coffee mornings, stalls and other events.
Fairtrade is a movement which helps disadvantaged farmers and workers in parts of the developing world get a better deal for their produce.
Events happening across the diocese during Fairtrade Fortnight includes St Meubred, Bodmin, Fairtrade Breakfast at Cardinham Parish Hall, 9.30am – 11am on September 27th. There will also be a stall and raffle. St Meubred is a Fairtrade church meaning people have committed to using fairtrade products wherever possible at the church. Any profits from the breakfast event will go to Transform Trade charity.
There will also be a Fairtrade stall from 11am on Sunday September 28 at Illogan Parish Church.
Members of St Gerrans church held its coffee morning earlier in the month raising £900 for Transform Trade – despite it being a rainy day.
Posters and information will be displayed in Blisland Church (St Protus and St Hyacinth) on its eco-church table and on the book table and including its eco harvest festival service. After this service there will be a gathering where congregation members will use fairtrade and LOAF items where possible.
People at Falmouth Town Council Chambers are also planning to hold an event on Saturday 22nd September, 1pm – 4pm. More information here: https://www.ctcinfohub.org/events/250927-fairtrade-fortnight-27th-sept-falmouth/
