Getting involved in community life
Some of you may have seen that St Ia Church in St Ives has been getting a bit of national media attention for a community event it is involved in.
Bishop Hugh Nelson, says: “We are aware of the interest there has been in a community initiative the church in St Ives is involved in. The festival at St Ives is a community event and it is good that the church is involved in the life of its community. These beer pumps are temporary and will be removed after the festival finishes. They are not in use during services and it is certainly not the vicar pulling the pints! Being a very real, living part of the community is just the kind of things churches should be doing. Some churches do hold alcohol licenses because they host wedding receptions so this isn’t as controversial as the media are suggesting.”
