Bishop Tim joined Year 7 pupils from Falmouth School at BF Adventure this week to see at first hand the impact that an outdoor adventure can have in building confidence, motivation, team work and in starting the new school year off in style.

He tagged on to a group tackling the infamous ‘splinters’ climb, one of the most challenging climbs on the 60-acre site; yet despite admitting to “not having the best head for heights”, he was soon taking in the views across the flooded adventure quarry with Martin Cathrow, one of the centre’s lead instructors.

All the pupils made it to the top in record time with cheers all round as they scrambled over the top ready for the next challenge. And with two full days of activity on site – including archery, zip wires, raft building, bushcraft and an overnight stay and BBQ – there was plenty to keep them occupied.

Bishop Tim is a trustee of the BF Adventure charity with its focus upon supporting young people in Cornwall – particularly those disadvantaged by social circumstances or disability.

In 2011, as well as activity days and short residential stays, the charity ran structured long-term programmes for 50 young people aged 14-19 who are not in education, employment and training, plus 78 children who had been excluded from school.

In addition, BF Adventure helped 120 primary school pupils on early intervention programmes and 150 disabled children and young people on activity breaks with their family or friends.

The charity is seeking new trustees to help develop its work, so anyone interested in helping to make a real difference should visit www.bfadventure.org or contact enquiries@bfadventure.org
