The first Bishop’s Safeguarding Conference took place this week. Two dozen people made their way to Tresmeer Village Hall, near Launceston, to talk about ways safeguarding policy and practice within the Diocese of Truro can be shaped to best help parishes prepare for the future.

The conference was addressed by the Bishop of St Germans, the Rt Revd Dr Chris Goldsmith, and the independent chair of the safeguarding advisory panel, Nigel Druce OBE, among others.

The diocesan safeguarding governance manager, Sue Day, said: “There was a lively discussion about issues and people’s experiences. People were able to share their ideas and there was a constructive discussion and consideration of how we might be able to do things differently.

“The feedback I got suggested it had been valuable for us to provide a safe forum to  recognise and acknowledge that, even within our local churches and people we think we know well, there is the potential for there to be an issue.”

The conferences run from 10.45am to 3pm and the forthcoming dates are:

  • Wednesday 11th July – Shire House Suite, Bodmin
  • Thursday 19th July – Main Hall, Marazion Community Centre
  • Saturday 28th July – Church Hall, All Saints Church, Highertown, Truro
