People who organise events on behalf of their churches or communities are being urged to attend one of four counter-terrorism awareness events in Cornwall.

The events are presented by trained police advisers and consist of a range of counter-terrorism awareness modules, which in turn will allow participants to consider their own procedures for dealing with terror related incidents.

The sessions are being organised as part of Project Griffin, a national counter-terrorism awareness initiative for business and event organisers. Its primary mission is to engage, encourage and enable members of the community to work in partnership with the police to deter, detect and counter terrorist activity and crime.

The local sessions, being organised by Devon and Cornwall Police, are being held at:

  • New County Hall in Truro, on Tuesday 15th August, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm
  • St Johns Hall in Penzance, on Wednesday 23rd August, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm

Cornwall Council’s Resilience & Emergency Management team will also give a short presentation at each session, setting out the wider ‘emergency preparedness’ considerations for event organisers.

It is hoped the sessions will give event-organisers practical ways they can prepare for and deliver safer events.
