Sue and Linda with Mrs Mossman’s clay crib scene

The annual exhibition always features a huge range of cribs and this year is no different.

Among those on display to visitors is a complete nativity scene and characters made from dried banana leaves. Others have been made from wood or hand knitted. There are others that members of the community have made from clay and even hand painted on to baubles. The cribs not only come from the local community such as the one made by the local Rainbows group, but also further afield including Bethlehem and Madeira.

One special crib that has pride of place is a clay scene made by St Issey resident Mrs Mossman, who passed away earlier this year.

Organised by Churchwardens Sue Norfolk and Linda Morley, the crib festival opened on Thursday and was immediately welcoming a steady stream of visitors.

Sue said: “The money we raise from this exhibition will go to the Coracle Appeal especially as work has now started on the tower and also towards work we are planning for the Church Rooms.”

On Friday evening (2nd) Padstow Carollers will be singing Padstow’s Unique Carols at the church and all are welcome. Admission is free although donations are welcome.

The exhibition is open until Sunday (4.30pm) and as well as being able to see the diverse range of quilts and cribs, visitors can also take part in a raffle or enjoy festive refreshments.
