with Revd Canon Dr Stephen Dawes
As we all know, the Old Testament has an image problem and it is rarely a preacher’s first choice for the sermon. Given some of the OT readings in the Lectionary, that is understandable. But neglecting the OT in the pulpit makes matters worse, misses the chance to explain stuff that can usefully be explained, and may even mean that the fuller sense of the NT readings is not seen. So this study day will look at how to avoid the preaching pitfalls and make the most of the preaching opportunities offered by the Old Testament. If anyone wants to suggest that we look at any particular lectionary set of readings, please let me know in advance (dawes5@phonecoop.coop) and we can include such a look.
