School children attending a recent Advent workshop in the diocese have been described a ‘joy’ to work with.

A number of pupils from Tregony School visited St Cuby Church recently to take part in the Diocese of Truro’s Advent Adventures workshop. Two children with their crafts - a Christmas tree behind them.

During the morning, children heard the Christmas story, took part in crafts and wrote prayers.

The workshop followed resources from Diocese of Truro’s website which have been created to help people run workshops for schools in churches.

The Advent package of resources, developed jointly by Tina Venton and Jane Wheeler from Carnmarth South Deanery and Clare Green, Diocese of Truro’s Schools’ Creation Care Officer, fit in with the required primary school curriculum and cover a number of objectives detailed in the Cornwall RE Syllabus followed by all Cornish Primary schools.

“It was a real joy to work with children from Tregony School as they visited St Cuby Church to take part in Advent Adventures.”

“In addition, they took part in a Godly Play session focussing on the story of the birth of Jesus.

“The session was a great success and was enjoyed by all the volunteers and staff.”

Advent Adventures is for those in Years 1 and 2 and can also be adapted for early years or lower juniors.

Any church interested in running a workshop with schoolchildren can contact Clare Green for advice.
