Are you ready for Creationtide?
People across the diocese are preparing to celebrate the world we live in during the season of Creationtide.
This is an annual event in the Church of England to remember, and be thankful for, God’s creation and promise again to look after the planet.
It begins on September 1 and runs until October 4 – which coincides with the Feast of St Francis. St Francis was well known for caring for animals and creation.
During Creationtide, people from across the diocese will be celebrating our world.
St Andrew’s Church in Stratton will be holding a Benefice Service of Holy Communion on August 31. They will be blessing and raising a special flag designed as part of a competition last year.
Later in Creationtide Dr Mike Kent will be visiting the Diocese of Truro to give a talk on the theme of ‘Creation Care through Science and Faith from the Garden of Eden to the Backyard’. Dr Kent is a marine biologist, a former teacher and head of the Centre for Applied Zoology, in Newquay, as well as a freelance science writer.
Many churches across the diocese will be holding special services. This includes All Saints Highertown which is planning to have a Franciscan theme to its Creationtide service.
On September 27, 3.30pm at Braddock church, hopefully outside if the weather allows, there will be a Creationcare Service of Celebration with an address by The Rt Revd David Williams, Bishop of Truro.
“It is so encouraging seeing our churches celebrating Creationtide and now firmly embracing Creationtide in the church year calendar.” – Rosey Sanders, clerk to the Diocesan Environment Board.

“Our Creation Care Champions are doing fantastic work in promoting ‘Caring for Creation, Cutting Carbon and Speaking Up’ and we are looking forward to receiving the feedback on all the brilliant ways they mark Creationtide this year.”
More events are being organised, so keep an eye on the Diocese of Truro website to find out more.
