It is with thanks and gratitude that the Diocese of Truro will say goodbye to Jim Cock who will step down from his role as DAC member in November following 18 years’ service.

DAC member Jim Cock with DAC Chair Paul Holden

Jim joined the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) in 2006 and has served under three DAC Chairs, four DAC secretaries and seven Archdeacons. Following a successful career as an architect, Jim lent his skills to the DAC, concentrating on the Archdeaconry of Bodmin and shared his knowledge freely and generously.

In a letter stating his intention to stand down, Jim said: “… I have enjoyed my time on the DAC, learned a lot, visited many lovely churches here in Cornwall, had the company of many good people on the DAC throughout the years who had far more knowledge than me … and it has been a great privilege to have sat on the DAC for so long. I shall look back over my years on the DAC with affection, fondness and friendship and wish you all well in the years to come.”

The key tasks of the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) are to help parishes to manage their buildings so that they provide a safe and welcoming environment for worship and mission; to ensure that any work carried out is carefully planned and executed in the most appropriate way; respecting both the historic significance of the building as well as its role as a functioning place of worship and as an asset for wider community use.

A DAC member said of Jim: “He will always be fondly remembered not only for his stylish and colourful suits, but his valuable input, outstanding knowledge of historic listed buildings, and architectural expertise which has always been considered, thoughtful and wise.”
