There are still a few days to get nominations in for the 2023 Cross of St Piran Awards.

The annual awards take place on St Piran’s Day, Sunday, March 5 at St Piran’s Church, Perranzabuloe. The deadline for nominations this year is January 16, 2023.

Details of the process for submitting a nomination for a Cross of St Piran award have been sent to Licensed clergy, Readers and Deanery Lay Chairs.  Nominations should be submitted to Rural deans and Lay chairs.

Criteria and details for nominations

In seeking nominations, Bishop Philip is anxious to ensure that these continue to be highly valued awards and on that basis the following criteria and restrictions will be applied:

  • There will be up to 20 awards made for 2023.
  • Each Deanery Standing Committee is asked to nominate one person for the award. A second nomination can be made in exceptional circumstances.
  • We are keen to reflect a range of ages in those who are celebrated: please bear this in mind when considering your nomination.
  • We are ideally seeking nominees who embody the vision and values of The Saints’ Way and its priorities, Creation Care or equality, diversity and inclusion so do consider nominating under those headings as well as for long service and other notable work.
  • Within the totality of the awards Bishop Philip may make his own personal nominations of those whose contribution might stand outside the parochial system.
  • The award is for life, unless the Bishop withdraws it.
  • The award is not restricted to Anglicans.
  • It is not awarded posthumously.

The reason for the nomination needs to be a maximum of 250 words.

Once a deanery standing committee has made a decision and filled in the relevant form then these should be submitted by the Rural Dean or Lay Chair to the Bishop’s office – office@truro.anglican.org – by January 16, 2023 at the latest.

Awards will be celebrated and presented at a special service on Sunday, March 5, at St Piran’s Church, Perranzabuloe at 3.30pm and at 6.30pm and all logistics will be sent out to recipients from the Bishop’s office prior to the service.
