DSC01823Sixteen people from across the diocese were recognised on Sunday for the work they have done both for their churches and the wider community.

The pews were full during two services at St Piran Church, Perranzabuloe, when friends and family listened to the nomination citations for each recipient as they received their crosses from Bishop Tim. The Bishop of St Germans, the Rt Revd Chris Goldsmith assisted with the presentations and took one of the readings.

At the afternoon service Bishop Tim also remembered two recipients of this year’s cross who had passed away. John Hodge sadly died not knowing he had been nominated although Bishop Tim informed the congregation that he had presented the award to his widow. The second recipient Joy Robinson had received her cross from Bishop Tim while in hospital. Her funeral will take place next week.

The afternoon service saw James Gynn, Mary Judson, Sandra Huffer, Peter Lavers, Gordon Gibson, Mavis Miles, Malcolm Warman, Carol White and Pat Phillips receive their crosses. During the evening service it was the turn of Mary Anson, Sid Bryant, Elizabeth Davies, Margery Truscott, Avril Heard, Jane Sloan and Geoffrey Holborow.

Both services finished with a rousing rendition of Trelawney, although the evening service raised the roof with their efforts!

Following both services food and refreshments were served and Bishop Tim thanked the team at St Piran Church for all their hard work and effort in hosting the event.
