Changes to Gift Aid: an update
This year sees two major changes to Gift Aid. There is a New Claims Process and the introduction of the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme.
HMRC will shortly be writing to the authorised official of each charity with news of these changes; and guidance is available on the Parish Resources website. This includes a summary of what you need to do this year.
Final details from HMRC, however, are still awaited and the Parish Resource guidance will be updated as soon as more is known.
The ‘good news’ is that the Small Donations Scheme will allow churches to claim a Gift Aid style payment on up to £5,000 of small cash donations (e.g. collections and wall safes) without the need for Gift Aid declarations. This is worth up to an additional £20 million across the Church of England.
A session on Gift Aid will be one of the features in the two special ‘Training for Treasurers’ mornings that will run at Diocesan House from 10am – 1pm on Saturday 18 May and Wednesday 22 May. Click here to find out more.
