Led by members of the Diversity Network for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, this day long workshop offers an opportunity to hear from people from the diverse communities of Cornwall. There will be a variety of presentations on the actual challenges and discrimination experienced on a regular basis by groups such as migrant workers; lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people; those with visible and ‘invisible’ disabilities and gypsies and travellers among others. The talks will be by people who speak from the perspective of ‘we’ rather than ‘they’ and will focus on issues specific to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
We will briefly consider the issues of modern slavery and female genital mutilation; two issues that are of increasing relevance in today’s society.
There will also be opportunities to discuss how we, as Christians, can and should respond and what we can do to make a difference both to the lives of individuals and to the communities that we serve.
