DESCRIPTION:Big World Fair – April 20 \nThe Big World Fair will take place in Truro Cathedral on April 20\, from 10am – 3:30pm. The cathedral will be full of stands with information and activities from a wide range of local\, national and international mission and development agencies. See the timetable here. \nThe event will be opened by Bishop Hugh Nelson and speakers include representatives from Tearfund\, Christian Aid\, Five Talents and Edukid who will be sharing inspiring stories about their work\, how Cornish churches and schools are already getting involved\, and how you and your church may get involved. \nThere will be performances throughout the day\, both inside and out\, from the fabulous Cornwall Youth Choir\, the inspiring Ukrainian Harmony Ladies choir\, the Roseland Academy samba band and local singer-songwriter and former missionary kid\, Isaac Salaman. There will also be drumming workshops for anyone to join in and have a go with African drumming. \nWe will have an exciting and interactive activity for children to get involved with running throughout the day. \nAll are welcome – there will be something for everyone. Come for the whole day or drop in and out through the day. Please book this date in your diaries and spread the word amongst your churches and friends! \nPlease feel free to download the poster and use it to publicise the event.

DESCRIPTION:In March 1994\, the first women were ordained as priests\, some having been ordained as Deacons before this and many ministering as Deaconesses before that. Over the past 30 years\, many women have followed in the footsteps of those who were first ordained. They have led and inspired men and women in their faith and brought vision and wisdom into the church and the varied and diverse communities that they have served in and led. To mark this important moment\, to celebrate the ministry of women past and present to pray for their continued ministries and to look towards a creative future of inclusive ministry\, there will be a service of celebration and thanksgiving in Truro Cathedral.

DESCRIPTION:Pupils of Cornish Schools and members of the county youth choir will all perform at a special service in November to celebrate our planet and the children who are fighting for it. \nThe Songs for Earth Service will be held in Truro Cathedral\, November 17th at 2pm. \nThe children are being invited to meet from 1.15pm on Lemon Quay and march to the cathedral with their banners. Diocese of Truro Environment Officer\, Luci Isaacson\, said: “many people are wondering what exactly they can do themselves to help the climate. If that sounds familiar\, why not come along to this cathedral service that celebrates the gift of creation and the actions of many across the whole Diocese of Truro”. \n“School choirs from across the county will process through Truro to join us\, and together we will sing Songs for Earth to highlight our opportunity to make change. This event will help us all galvanise our passion into much-needed action – to reduce our carbon emissions and enjoy learning what we can all do.” \nAs well as the schools and county youth choir taking part\, the event is being held in conjunction with the Cornwall Federation of WIs (CFWI). \nThe federation was represented on the original steering group for the cathedral’s Footsteps to Copenhagen Project that led to the creation of the Ten Pledges\, which have been adopted by hundreds of people across the diocese. \n“I hope the service will be an inspiration to children and adults alike\,” said Luci. “Many people feel the desire to help the environment\, but are unsure of what to do. The Ten Pledges gives everybody a starting point\, some relatively easy\, straightforward and everyday ways to help the environment.” \n

It is an intensely dramatic work at times\, with the noise and fury of crowds and warring Gods\, for example\, or the ascent of a fiery chariot into heaven\, portrayed in stirring and colourful music from orchestra and chorus. There are contemplative\, beautiful moments too\, such as the resurrection of a dead youth\, or the coming of rain after a deadly drought.’ \nConsisting off four vocal soloists – bass-baritone\, tenor\, alto and soprano. Each have memorably tuneful arias as well as sometimes combining in duets\, trios and quartets. The work contains melodies\, dramatic scenes\, and wonderfully tender moments. There will also be four soloists – Christopher Cull\, Alexander James Edwards\, Catherine Carby and Anita Watson. (Hons) Contemporary Crafts course and Truro Cathedral has run for several years and has always proved to be stimulating\, challenging and very rewarding.  This year the students have been asked to make works that correspond to the material and metaphorical fabric of this incredible building.  Site visits and exploratory research has led Contemporary Crafts students to find unique ways of interpreting and communicating some of the stories and qualities of Truro Cathedral that have captured their attention. Their ideas are being communicated through many material processes and techniques; these include diverse approaches to materials such as glass\, ceramic and wood.   \nFree – Exhibition runs in Truro Cathedral until 16 February \n
