DESCRIPTION:St Endellion present The Galini Piano Trio\, ( Andrew Watkinson – violin\, Shuna Wilson – cello and Caroline Palmer – piano) they will be playing Haydn’s Piano trio in A major\, Shostakovich’s 2nd piano trio in E minor\, and Schubert’s piano trio in B flat in what promises to be a very special concert by these world-class players. The Galini Piano trio was formed 12 years ago and has since played all over the UK and abroad. Andrew has been the first violin of the Endellion Quartet for 37 years. Shuna was the cellist of the Kandinsky Quartet for several years and Caroline is Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. DESCRIPTION:‘Dr Will Lamb will explore the way in which the language of the Book of Revelation has shaped the theological imagination in literature and poetry\, film\, music and art. The Book of Revelation has been described as the Bible’s ‘prime visionary text’ and a charter for “the Principle of Hope”. It can offer a radical and subversive perspective on situations of oppression and evil. It can inspire a renewed hope in God’s gracious purposes for the whole of creation. But its legacy is ambiguous. This same book has also been interpreted in ways that appear to collude with violence\, terror and oppression. DESCRIPTION:From Miles Smith’s Preface to the King James Bible 1611: “So the Syrian translation of the New testament is in most learned men’s libraries\, ….\, and the Psalter in Arabic is with many ….”. \nIn what languages is the Bible written? What is the history of translation of the Bible into other languages? 2017 is the 500th anniversary of Luther’s publishing his 95 Theses the impact of which led to his translating the Bible into German. Luther in turn inspired Tyndale and subsequent English translations. \nDoes it matter that most of us read the Bible only in translation? Can translations ever faithfully reflect the original work – whether of the bible or of other works? Why is there a need constantly to revise translations? SUMMARY:Midsummer Night's Dream
DESCRIPTION:A day reflecting on the relationship between drama and spirituality in a Midsummer Night’s Dream will be held in St Endellion Church at 10.30am  on Saturday 5th November. \nThe day will be led by Revd Professor Paul Fiddes\, University of Oxford\, who through talks\, discussion and video excerpts\, will draw on two important quotations from the New Testament in the play\, where Shakespeare encourages the audience to find the power which enables them to see things more clearly both in personal relationships and in civic society. \nThe study day will end at 3pm but  at 6pm in St Minver Church\, there will be a presentation of a  new church ‘liturgy for voices’ combining new poetry\, music and excerpts from the play and elements from the  traditional Christian liturgy\, with congregational involvement.
