SUMMARY:Enneagram and the Spiritual Journey
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Epiphany House from Friday 3rd to Saturday 4th of November for a special workshop led by Revd Dr David Rake. After you have learnt the basics of the Enneagram and begun to understand how individually you express your type\, you can then use it’s insights to illuminate your spiritual journey. During the course you will be looking at the characteristics of the three centres and consider how you can be aware of your inner movements and how to use them positively on your journey towards wholeness. You will go on to study the spiritual journey\, prayer and worship within the Christian tradition\, from your own perspective and from the perspective of other Enneagram types. \nThis course will run from Friday evening and Saturday daytime\, overnight accommodation can be available at an extra cost. For more information and to book\, email info@epiphanyhouse.co.uk or phone 01872 272249.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - A Day on Diversity- How Welcoming Can We Be?
DESCRIPTION:Led by members of the Diversity Network for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly\, this day long workshop offers an opportunity to hear from people from the diverse communities of Cornwall. There will be a variety of presentations on the actual challenges and discrimination experienced on a regular basis by groups such as migrant workers; lesbian\, gay\, bisexual and transgender people; those with visible and ‘invisible’ disabilities and gypsies and travellers among others. The talks will be by people who speak from the perspective of ‘we’ rather than ‘they’ and will focus on issues specific to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. \nWe will briefly consider the issues of modern slavery and female genital mutilation; two issues that are of increasing relevance in today’s society. \nThere will also be opportunities to discuss how we\, as Christians\, can and should respond and what we can do to make a difference both to the lives of individuals and to the communities that we serve. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Trusting God in troubled times: Digging into the text of Isaiah
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Howard Peskett \nHow beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings\, who publishes peace\, who brings good tidings of good\, who publishes salvation\, who says to Zion\, “Your God reigns!” \nWhenever I read these words I think of a missionary friend who told me that they first came home to his heart when he buried a young Cambodian boy by the side of a track near a refugee camp in Thailand; the boy had died after becoming sick when he returned to his country during the Khmer Rouge times to tell the people in his village about Jesus. \nIn this workshop we will dig into the text of six exhilarating chapters of Isaiah\, in the very heart of the book\, chapters 50 to 55.  Isaiah is not the longest book of the Old Testament (there are five books which are longer); but it is the most quoted in the New Testament (412 times\, according to my computation from my Greek New Testament).  The chapters we will study include the most famous of the five Servant Songs in Isaiah; the text of a famous sermon by William Carey which was hugely significant at the beginning of the modern Western missionary movement; and two unforgettable chapters about the character and the mission of the church. \nBecause every day we are deluged with information pouring into our house through the postbox and electronically\, we are forced to “surf” through all this material\, selecting what interests us or what matters. There is a danger that we bring this surfing mindset to our bible-reading also.  We can see similar behavior if we visit an art gallery – there are many people who hurry past the pictures\, giving them a cursory glance.  But connoisseurs (and devotees) enjoy every intricate detail; they sit and stare; and then stand up and look again from a different angle; then they go away and come back again…. \nIn this workshop we will pay close attention to Isaiah’s words\, which have not lost their resonance although written long ago.  Through this calm attentiveness we will refresh our souls for ministry and mission; and we will receive help to go on trusting God through troubled times. \n Howard Peskett is a retired priest living in Penzance\, formerly the Dean of the Discipleship Training Centre in Singapore; the Vice Principal of Trinity College Bristol; the Rural Dean of Penwith.  He has spent a lifetime encouraging men and women\, in Asia and in the UK\, to believe that they can themselves discover the meaning and the wonder of the Bible as they seek to love and follow Christ. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Appreciative Inquiry and Your Ministry
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Kathryn Price \nThe church is a mystery to embrace rather than a problem to be solved \nAppreciative Inquiry is based on the idea of discovering what works and gives life to an organisation and building the organisation on these life giving properties. \nThrough using Appreciative Inquiry in churches we discover”  What in God’s name is going on here” and then designing the church structure and programmes to enable more of these Godly things to be done and participated in. \nThe United Reformed Church has begun to use Appreciative Inquiry in different parts of its life – to review and evaluate\, plan change and growth and to counter the tendency of churches to focus on the negative. \nKathryn has been using AI for a couple of years now – to help churches identify their own mission\, as a research tool and in daily life.  This day will introduce the principles of Appreciative Inquiry and give examples of how it can be used to transform your ministry in ways both simple and profound. \nRevd Kathryn Price has 18 years of URC ministry experience\, serving local churches\, an ecumenical group\, national committees and is now Education & Learning Enabler for the South Western Synod.  She has also recently undergone \nextensive training with Appreciating People\, the URC’s partner in developing Appreciative Inquiry in the United Reformed Church. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish.  \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Encountering and dealing with requests for the ministry of deliverance
DESCRIPTION:With Revd Jem Thorold \n‘Jesus\, in his life\, suffering and death\, and in his resurrection and ascension defeated evil and brought\nthe hope of salvation to everyone. \nSo we can be confident that when we pray the Lord’s Prayer for deliverance from evil\, God hears us\, and that praying with people for their needs and protection is often an appropriate way of ministering to them. \nSome people\, however\, seek specific help when going through times of suffering and anxiety\, or when distressed by what seem to be continuing experiences of evil within them or around them. \nFor these people\, it may be right to ask for God’s saving help through the Church’s deliverance ministry. ‘ \n(The House of Bishops’ Guidelines for Good Practice in the Deliverance Ministry 1975 (revised 2012) \nWe will explore together how to respond\, minister to\, collaborate with others and record requests for the Ministry of Deliverance. \nLooking at Best Practice – Safeguarding – Our own protection and prayer life. \nRevd Jem Thorold is the Chaplain to the Bishop’s and the ‘Gatekeeper’ for the Ministry of Deliverance. \n10am Coffee and Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.
