SUMMARY:CMED Course- Reaching The Saga Generation
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Canon Dave Elkington and Revd Roger May \nYou will have heard about Saga holidays\, Saga magazine\, Saga Insurance all aimed at those aged 50 and over. They are the ageing baby boomer generation (1945 – 65). They were once described as the ‘first teenagers’. People like Bryan Ferry\, Jane Seymour\, Harrison Ford and Twiggy are the faces of the Saga generation. \nThere are many misunderstandings about what it means today to be a ‘pensioner’. \nIn this event we will look at: \n\nThe make up of the Saga generation\nDistinctive Features of the Saga generation\nTheir search for spiritual values\nWhere different groups are starting from in this quest\nWhy the church needs more older people\nIdeas that will appeal to the Saga generation\nMaterial that may be suitable for evangelism\nShare examples of good practice\nHopefully have a fun time as well as examine this important area of the church’s mission.\n\nUntil moving to Cornwall Dave Elkington was Local Adviser in Evangelism and a Residentiary Canon in the Diocese of Newcastle. There he sought to help the local church by advising and supporting parishes in the study of theology and in practical expressions of Evangelism including promoting and advising on church growth\, on introductory and nurture courses. He also helped parishes in the planning and delivery of mission events and weekends\, alongside longer term prayer and strategic planning in the form of Mission Action Plans. He is particularly interested in the place and nature of sport in the life and outreach of the local church and has been chaplain to Newcastle Falcons RUFC.  \n Revd Roger May spent 25 years in the Royal Navy followed by several civilian jobs\, eleven years of which were in the training sector\, before training for the Ministry. He trained with the South West Ministry Training Course and was ordained as a Self Supporting Minister in 2010. Since then he has worked as part of the Bodmin Team. He has pastoral care for St Hydroc church\, which is in the grounds of the National Trust property Lanhydrock House\, and is a fully paid up member of the Saga Generation. \n10am Coffee and Start\, 1pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.
