SUMMARY:CMED Course- Money Matters
DESCRIPTION:with Dr John Preston\, Rebecca Evans and Bishop Tim  \nWhether handling a pastoral situation\, preaching about a whole-hearted commitment to generosity or working with your PCC to fund your mission and ministry\, money matters. This day blends input from Bishop Tim\, John Preston (National Stewardship Officer) and Rebecca Evans and gives the latest good practice on practical and ethical community finance\, preaching and teaching about money and a new programme to support parishes in raising funds. \nJohn has been the Church of England’s National Stewardship Officer since 2005\, but prior to that spent fifteen years marketing everything from sandwiches to soap powder. He has the dubious distinction of perhaps the UK’s only doctorate in supermarket shelf stacking.  He is a Reader in his home church near Telford in Shropshire. \nRebecca is the Diocesan Stewardship Advisor. \nBishop Tim is the Bishop of Truro \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Homelessness
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Andrew Yates \nCornwall sadly has a relatively high level of rough sleeping and homelessness. The church has a long tradition of offering support and practical help to those in this need. \nThe morning of this Study Day will involve attending the quarterly Churches Homelessness Network which brings together church projects and other agencies working in the field for support and updates. In the afternoon there will be opportunities to meet with some of the professionals in the field and a chance to ask questions on appropriate responses to be made by us as ministers. \n Andrew is the Diocesan Social Responsibility Officer and Priest in the Penlee Cluster. \nNote: This event is a joint CMED/IME Phase 2 (curates) session. \n9.30am Coffee and Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Looking Closely At Genesis 1
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Canon Dr Stephen Dawes \nIn this session we will look closely at the well-known and beautifully crafted opening chapter of Genesis.  Why are there so many different\, and sometimes downright contradictory\, translations of the opening verses?  What does the creation of humanity ‘in the image of God’ mean?  What about that ‘us’ and ‘our’ of verse 26?  What about the patterns and choruses?  Bring as many Bibles as you’ve got and we’ll compare\, contrast and explore. \n Stephen is a retired Methodist minister and the Canon Theologian of Truro Cathedral. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Engaging Generation Y
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Charles Burgess \nChristian leadership is best exercised in community. It isn’t a solo venture\, but involves leading well with others and this includes leading across generations. Gen Y (those born between 1980-2000) are among us. They are different\, and many churches are finding that they don’t seem to lead in the same ways as other generations. This day explains the differences between the generations (Gen Y\, Gen X\, Boomers\, Trads)\, and explores how to attract\, engage and motivate Gen Y in leadership\, for example paid staff such as younger youth workers or curates\, as well as volunteers. \nCharles is a leadership specialist with CPAS. He has many years of practical leadership experience both from a career in the RAF and\, in the last six years\, through his role with CPAS. CPAS currently work with over 20 dioceses in supporting them as they seek to build and strengthen a culture of collaborative leadership\, including developing and enabling vision\, changing culture\, building teams and developing missional leadership. To this end\, Charles facilitates various leadership development events across the UK\, from individual days to longer-term programmes. He also mentors clergy in developing their leadership development skills. \n10am Coffee 10.30am Start 3.30pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Training Day- 'Atonement Theories- And Why We Don't Need Them?'
DESCRIPTION:‘Atonement Theories- And Why We Don’t Need Them?’\nwith Revd Canon Dr Stephen Dawes\nThe Big Question the first Christians faced was ‘Why did Jesus the Messiah die?’ because dying was not in the official script.  So they ransacked their theological resources for explanations and came up with a rich variety of ideas\, metaphors\, explanations\, illustrations and parables. In this Study Day we will look at that process\, explore and critique a variety of Atonement Theories\, and ask if some of them haven’t seriously and catastrophically missed the Biblical point.
