SUMMARY:Thomas Cranmer Commemoration Service
DESCRIPTION:In the final years of Henry VIII’s reign\, Thomas Cranmer\, the Archbishop of Canterbury\, conceived and wrote the original Book of Common Prayer. \nAfter the accession of the Catholic Mary I\, Cranmer was put on trial for treason and heresy. Imprisoned for over two years and under pressure from Church authorities\, he made several recantations and apparently reconciled himself with the Catholic Church. \nWhile this would have normally absolved him\, Mary wanted him executed\, and\, on the day of his execution\, he withdrew his recantations\, to die a heretic to Catholics and a martyr for the principles of the English Reformation \nOne year after his death in 1547\, Parliament enacted the Act of Uniformity and for the first time England had its first\, single church service\, set out in the Book of Common Prayer. \nFor over 350 years the Book of Common Prayer has been the bedrock service book for the Anglican Church. \nIn March every year\, the Prayer Book Society commemorates the martyrdom of Thomas Cranmer and this year\, a special Choral BCP Service of Holy Communion will be held in Truro Cathedral at 5pm on Wednesday 22 March\, led by the Cathedral Choir\, preacher Father Simon Robinson. \nThis will be preceded by tea and biscuits at 3.30pm and\, at 4pm\, a talk by Revd Professor Andrew Lewis\, entitled ‘The Prayer Book Revolt and its Effect on the Cornish Language’. \nIt is a very special occasion and it is open to anyone who would like to attend. \nFor poster see here:  Cranmer day summary poster 23.03.23

SUMMARY:Walk & Talk Audit at St Andrew’s Church\, Clinton Road\, Redruth TR15 2LL
DESCRIPTION:Net Zero 2030 series: Cut Carbon\, Cut Costs workshops \nThe Diocese of Truro is running a series of five workshops on the theme of Net Zero 2030: Cut Carbon\, Cut Costs. The series is a mix of online and in-person sessions. You are welcome to join us for one\, some or all of the series. Please book each workshop separately. \nOverview \nOur second session will see us meeting together in a Cornish church with Matt Fulford\, Director of Inspired Efficiency and an experienced senior advisor on energy\, carbon and sustainability issues. Matt will take us on a ‘walk and talk’ around the building\, including using a drone to explore hard to reach areas such as the roof and boiler room. There will also be presentations to listen to as we build our knowledge and understanding of how to conduct audits and complete efficiency audits of our buildings. This session is especially recommended for church wardens. \nThe Diocese of Truro has over 300 church buildings\, 86% of which are listed and subject to the Faculty Jurisdiction Rules.  The changes to the Faculty rules have made gaining permission for certain Net Zero Carbon matters easier (with appropriate conditions) but permissions are still/may be required so always check with the DAC Secretary. \nBook your place HERE

SUMMARY:Mission to India talk
DESCRIPTION:Revd Alison Hardy and Revd Nicki Farr undertook a mission trip to India in February.\n\n\n\nThe trip gave an opportunity to engage in the work of ‘Reaching the Unreached’\, and praying for many people across the Christian churches which are overseen by the family the pair visited. The adventure also gave Alison and Nicki a chance to explore the Church and Christian faith in a different culture.\n\n\n\nNow safely back in the diocese\, Nicki and Alison want to share their experiences of the work they were involved in and their time in India.\n\n\n\nThey are invited anyone interested to join them on April 2 at Egloskerry Village Hall from 3pm – 5pm.

SUMMARY:The Falmouth Way Launch Event
DESCRIPTION:Local churchgoers in the parishes around Falmouth and Penryn have produced a new guide to a series of country walks around the historic churches in the area. \nTheir booklet\, the Falmouth Way\, will guide readers to twelve local churches\, as well as Glasney College Field\, site of the ancient Glasney College\, founded in 1265. \nIt is intended to encourage walkers to enjoy the wonderful churches the area has to offer\, as well as to appreciate both the beauty and the fragility of the natural environment. \nIt also offers suggestions for eco-friendly actions\, as well as tips on some of the animal and plant life to look out for on the way. \nThe booklet will be available from participating churches after the launch event. Copies are free\, but donations in support of the project will be gratefully received. \nThis initiative is part of the Diocese of Truro’s increasing emphasis on the role the church must play in caring for all of creation in a time of environmental crisis. \nThe Falmouth Way will be launched at a special event at Higher Wayfield\, next to Budock Church\, at 12.30pm on Saturday 8th April\, led by the Right Reverend Hugh Nelson\, Bishop of St Germans. \n“I am so pleased that these churches are setting up the Falmouth Way\,” says Bishop Hugh. “God’s creation is so beautiful and getting closer to it can often draw us closer to Him. I hope that many people walk this new Way\, and discover God’s presence as they do so.” \n“We’re so grateful to Bishop Hugh for his support\,” said Falmouth Way organiser Lucy Thompson. “Our initial idea was that this would be like a pilgrimage. It’s like a pilgrimage not to just one holy site but to all our churches\, a pilgrimage which also celebrates the wonderful natural environment with which in southwest Cornwall we have been so blessed – and which we must all play our part in preserving for future generations.” \nThe Falmouth Way initiative is organised by the Creation Care team for the Deanery of Carnmarth South. \nCreation Care Launch Poster

SUMMARY:How do we achieve Net Zero 2030 with our church buildings – the dos and don’ts! - Egloshayle Church\, Wadebridge
\nOverview \nOur third workshop of the series builds on session two\, as we get to grips with the question of how we achieve Net Zero 2030 carbon within our church buildings. We will explore the key ‘dos and don’ts’ and consider what changes are right for each of our buildings. This session will have representatives of the DAC and a RIBA Conservation Architect present. \nBook your place HERE \n \nOur previous workshop on 23rd March was a lively and highly informative event full of enthusiasm\, energy and ideas. Many thanks to St Andrew’s in Redruth for hosting it\, and to the more-than-thirty people who came along and took part. We look forward to seeing you again – and to meeting new net zero champions – in Wadebridge in May! \nAs Matt Fulford\, who advises the Church of England on its net zero strategy\, said at our march event\, “the Church has done quite huge amount in a very short space of time. Don’t think it’s impossible. This can be done. It’s not difficult to do. It can be done with today’s technologies. It is being done.” \nOr\, in the words of Ben Lillie\, environment officer at the Diocese of Truro\, “here are churches demonstrating what it means to cherish creation\, to cut carbon and to speak up.”

SUMMARY:Churches Tent at the Cornwall Royal Show
DESCRIPTION:Each year Churches Together run the Churches Tent at stand number one at the Royal Cornwall Show. \nThis year\, they’ll be offering a special eve-of-show service at 6.30pm on Wednesday 7th June in the main ring\, and will then have their stand open to visitors 8.00am till 6.00pm through all three days of the show\, Thursday 8th till Saturday 10th June\, \nThey welcome visitors all day with cups of fairtrade tea and coffee\, plus biscuits. There’s no charge for refreshments – though a donation is always gratefully received! \nThey also have a fairtrade stand\, a Christian bookstall and activities for children. \n“People come in and have a drink and a chat\,” says the Reverend Dom Whitting\, vice-chair of this year’s Churches Together Tent Committee. “What’s really nice is that we have people who come back to see us every year\, popping in to take a break\, sometimes to meet up with people they haven’t seen since last year’s show. Some have a church background\, but many don’t.” \nChaplains from the group also go around the show to meet people\, and on the hour back at the Churches Tent will say a prayer\, offering people a moment of quiet reflection and spiritual togetherness\, offering a space of sanctuary and rest from the bustling activity and excitement of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association’s annual show.
