SUMMARY:Prayer\, Mindfulness and Reflection
DESCRIPTION:Our lives are full of noise. We are connected and contactable by anyone\, at anytime and anywhere. There is little space to be still\, reflect and to pray. \nThe benefits of mindfulness and meditation are being recognized as being good for our mental wellbeing. These have been recognized by Christians since the beginning of the early church\, some 2\,000 years ago. \nDuring this National Weekend of Prayer (Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th September 2016) \, the Benefice Churches of St George and St John in Truro would like to invite you\, to come along\, allow yourself some space and time. A moment to be still\, to be at peace and to be in the presence of our God. \nYou are welcome\, whatever your background. This is an opportunity to explore\, to ask God those questions you have wanted to ask\, to encounter the living God. \nPlease click here for further information.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Leading from the second chair
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Charles Burgess \nSome people will always be second chair leaders – those who serve with others in overall leadership. Others will be passing through to becoming the incumbent or some other first chair leader. Many in overall leadership will have those who lead with them. This day identifies some of the common issues for those in the second chair\, explores how to work with those tensions but also realise the benefits\, and offers a forum to share concerns and struggles. \nCharles is a leadership specialist with CPAS. He has many years of practical leadership experience both from a career in the RAF and\, in the last seven years\, through his role with CPAS. CPAS currently work with over 20 dioceses in supporting them as they seek to build and strengthen a culture of collaborative leadership\, including developing and enabling vision\, changing culture\, building teams and developing missional leadership. To this end\, Charles facilitates various leadership development events across the UK\, from individual days to longer-term programmes. He also mentors clergy in developing their leadership development skills. \nNote: This event is a joint CMED/IME Phase 2 (curates) session. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:Great British Choral Anthems
DESCRIPTION:Truro Cathedral Choir and the City of London Sinfonia on 30 September at 7:30 pm \nSpectacular\, rousing and awe-inspiring – Handel’s Coronation Anthems are made for the great settings of our nation’s cathedrals\, resounding under their vast stone vaults for hundreds of years. Spanning those centuries\, James MacMillan\, one of Britain’s most revered composers\, has written his own anthem especially for this national tour with support from Friends of Cathedral Music. And Bach’s music is poignant elegance in sound\, synonymous with perfection. There are few sounds as stirring as our cathedral choristers raising their voices in song\, and they really soar when united with an orchestra like the world-class City of London Sinfonia. \nThis is the ticketing information for the London Sinfonia with Truro Cathedral Choir concert on 30 September 2016 at 7:30 pm. \nTickets online from cls.co.uk (24 hours) or telephone 020 7621 2800 (weekdays 10 am – 6pm) \nAdults £10-£25. Children £5\, full-time students and 16-25s £5 selected seats.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Preaching with conviction
DESCRIPTION:with Mr Paul Johns \nTo be good preachers we need to know our Bible.  It’s the preacher’s book. There’s always more to learn from it; there are always fresh ways of interpreting it.  We also need to be good at engaging with the congregation\, so that people feel we’re talking with them not at them.  We need to keep fresh our speaking skills. \nBut above all we need to display conviction!  You may not be a great biblical scholar\, or a gifted orator.  But if you can speak from the heart about Jesus Christ\, witness to the truth of what you say from your own experience\, then\, while not everyone may agree with you\, ‘they will know that there has been a prophet among them’. (Ezek. 2:15) \nSo preaching with conviction in a culture of doubt and scepticism – that’s the main theme of this day together.  Let’s look afresh at the ways \n\nwe use the Bible in our preaching;\nreflect on our personal experiences;\ninterpret what’s going on in the world around us\nshape our sermons and share them with the congregation.\n\nAnd on the way\, we’ll look back to John and Charles Wesley\, Anglican priests who founded the Methodist movement.  The Spirit led them to proclaim the gospel afresh for their times.  Will the same Spirit lead us to do the same for ours? The answer is YES \n‘And let me live to preach Thy word’ (Charles Wesley). \nPaul Johns has been a Methodist local preacher for many years\, and for six years until recently Director of the College of Preachers. He has degrees in history and theology.  He used to contribute to BBC 4’s ‘Thought for the Day’\, has been Managing Director of Traidcraft\, and Chair of CND.  When not living in the world of preaching in this country\, Paul spends time in Bosnia working on behalf of Coventry Cathedral on a project called ‘Schools for Peace’. \n10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Live Streaming at Worship: Baptisms\, Weddings\, Funeral and Occasional Worship
DESCRIPTION:with members of the Penlee Cluster \nThe ability to live stream worship gives us great opportunities and challenges as we reach out beyond the doors of our church buildings. This day aims to be a very practical one as together we explore live streaming. \nAmong other questions we will explore “why live stream worship?” issues involved in live streaming” and “how to live stream simply”.  We will explore what it might mean to worship through across the Internet. There will be a chance to have a go\, reflect on the process and refine what we do. \nThis day should be of interest to all who lead worship\, have pastoral contact with people and those with an interest in the actual physical steaming. \nThis event will be lead by staff in the Penlee Cluster as part of their e-waves project initiative of doing church differently sponsored by the Bishop’s Den. Although the day will take place in Penzance part of the day will be able to be accessed remotely as participants try out live streaming. \n10am Coffee and Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.
