SUMMARY:Windows into St Paul
DESCRIPTION:If Jesus is the foundation and origin of the Christian faith\, then it is hard not to argue that St Paul should be rightly numbered among its principal architects. Credited with 13 of the 27 books of the New Testament- – which amount to 32% of its overall content – his letters to various communities and individuals reveal both his trials and tribulations as an early missionary and his skill as a thinker and theologian. \nWindows into St Paul will begin with the story of the events on the Damascus Road that made Saul\, Paul and explore through the letters to the communities he founded how his Jewish faith and theology were reshaped through that encounter. Alongside of this run the real events and issues that occur in those communities that challenge Paul’s gifts as both a pastor\, a teacher and a leader  – and as these are explored  by the course it is hard not to make comparisons and think again about the issues and challenges that face church communities today. \nThe six-week course will conclude in its final two weeks by looking in more depth at 1 Corinthians and Romans two of Paul’s finest and influential works. \nThe course begins on Monday 19th September and will be taught three times each day 10am-12noon\, 2pm-4pm and 7.30pm -9.30pm in the Pearson room of the Cathedral Office. There is little space to be still\, reflect and to pray. \nThe benefits of mindfulness and meditation are being recognized as being good for our mental wellbeing. These have been recognized by Christians since the beginning of the early church\, some 2\,000 years ago. \nDuring this National Weekend of Prayer (Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th September 2016) \, the Benefice Churches of St George and St John in Truro would like to invite you\, to come along\, allow yourself some space and time. SUMMARY:CMED Course - Leading from the second chair
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Charles Burgess \nSome people will always be second chair leaders – those who serve with others in overall leadership. Others will be passing through to becoming the incumbent or some other first chair leader. Many in overall leadership will have those who lead with them. This day identifies some of the common issues for those in the second chair\, explores how to work with those tensions but also realise the benefits\, and offers a forum to share concerns and struggles. \nCharles is a leadership specialist with CPAS. He has many years of practical leadership experience both from a career in the RAF and\, in the last seven years\, through his role with CPAS. CPAS currently work with over 20 dioceses in supporting them as they seek to build and strengthen a culture of collaborative leadership\, including developing and enabling vision\, changing culture\, building teams and developing missional leadership. To this end\, Charles facilitates various leadership development events across the UK\, from individual days to longer-term programmes.
