SUMMARY:Falmouth Filling Station
DESCRIPTION:A new way of exploring the Christian faith has come to the Falmouth at the Penmorvah Manor Hotel\, Budock Water in the form of a ‘Filling Station’ meeting.\nThis is a new form of worship designed for people who feel a spiritual need for God but may feel that for some reason\, they can’t come to church. It has been found that The Filling Station will fulfil their needs. \nThese are a new cafe-style Christian celebrations which take place in venues such as village halls\, converted barns\, hotels & cafes across the country. They are relaxed and informal gatherings on a week day evening and give a different style of Christian experience. \nThe Filling Station movement was founded in a village in Wiltshire in 2006 and the new Falmouth Area Filling Station is the 52nd Filling Station to be set up across the UK\, France\, South Africa\, Canada and Switzerland; it is the first in Cornwall. Many leaders from a variety of Christian communities including Falmouth\, are excited about what they bring to an area. Over 2\,500 people attend a Filling Station gathering somewhere each month. \nThe Falmouth Area Filling Station will take place on the 3rd Monday of a month\, starting at 7.30pm. The gatherings will include celebration\, learning about being a Christian\, personal experience\, reflection and discussion as well as high quality refreshments and fellowship. The meetings are free and open to all. \nCharles Neate\, of the team hosting the meetings\, said ‘In a culture more familiar with cafes than Gothic church buildings\, we are presenting the central core of our Christian faith in a manner\, and unusual location that will appeal to a lot of people outside the traditional church’. \nFor more information contact Mr Charles Neate on: 01326 372742 or visit: thefillingstation.org.uk and look for the ‘Falmouth’ web page.

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Liturgical Rules\, Why We Need Them
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Lesley Walker \n Writing in the Forward to the book Liturgy\, Order and Law John Hapgood says: \n  “Worship uniquely expresses the mind of the church and encapsulates its doctrine.” \n In reality the doctrine and teaching of the Church of England is enshrined in the Book of Common Prayer\, the 39 Articles of Religion and the Ordinal.  It is for this reason that those who are involved in the planning and leading of worship need to have some understanding of liturgical law. \nThere will always be those who question the need for any rules or control and there will inevitably be parishes where little attention is paid to them.  As the Church of England has developed its new liturgies and has encouraged more informal worship aimed at appealing to the young and the un-churched the need for clear guidelines has become even more important.  There needs to be an increased awareness amongst those responsible for maintaining and ordering the worshipping life of the Church.  In turn as those responsible for planning and leading worship we do need to have an understanding of the legal frameworks we are required to work by\, what they are and why they are there.  This is important not only to safeguard the Church of England but also to protect worshippers from those clergy and parishes who seek to set themselves apart from our common heritage and tradition. \nThe aim of this session is not to be prescriptive but to help us to embrace the worship we hold in common while celebrating the diversity that is possible within today’s Church of England. \n Lesley has been Rector of the Meneage Benefice since 2007.  Her interest in liturgy began as a Curate and has continued throughout her ministry.  She was secretary to Hereford Diocesan Liturgical Committee for 10 years and has been involved in training clergy\, ordinands\, Readers and Lay Worship Leaders in both Hereford and Canterbury. She has recently been involved in the setting up of a Liturgical Committee for this diocese.  \nNote: This event is a joint CMED/IME Phase 2 (curates) session. \n5.45pm Light buffet Refreshments\, 6.30pm Start\, 9pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place. \n

SUMMARY:CMED Course- The History and Practice Of The Celtic Christian Church
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Canon Pat Robson MBE \nSoon after Rome withdrew its troops in 410AD Britain was invaded by large numbers of displaced peoples from Europe.  Many Britons fled ahead of the invasion to hide in the valleys of Wales or to make a new home in NW Gaul. The Brits became a refugee people\, anxious about the safety of their families\, desperate to find land where they could settle in peace and determined to keep their Christian faith alive. Over the next 200 years\, while the British Church was cut off from the mainstream church in Europe\, it developed some unique customs and beliefs that are still held dear by the British people to this day. \nPat  is a retired priest and teacher. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 3.30pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place. \n

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Working With And In Teams
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Canon Keith Lamdin \nEmerging themes of ministry and leadership in parishes these days always put teamwork at the centre.  Sometimes this is thought of as teams of priests working together\, stipendiary and self supporting\, of clergy and licensed lay ministers\, or clergy and elected wardens and members of PCCs\, and sometimes to include all those in the parish who exercise leadership – lay visitors\, house group leaders\, youth and children’s leaders. \nThis day will explore: \n\na model of team work promoted by Patrick Lencioni\, known as the 5 dysfunctions of a team\, including a film of a talk he gave several years ago to a church audience.\nA theology of collaboration\, suggested by people such as Robin Greenwood and Stephen Pickard.\nThe range of skills that are needed in every team to ensure that it actually produces something.  These are ideas developed by Belbin\n\nThe Revd Canon Keith Lamdin was for 25 years the director of the Board for Stewardship\, Training\, Evangelism and Ministry in the diocese of Oxford\, where he managed a team of 14 trainers and consultants. He led the development of a competency-based modular programme\, validated by Oxford Brookes University\, at undergraduate and post graduate levels. He taught on the Master’s leadership modules. \n Now as the Principal of Sarum College in Salisbury he not only exercises a leadership role himself but also specialises in the professional development of clergy\, working as a consultant to senior clergy as well as to senior managers in the field of health care\, education and the voluntary sector. He has launched the MA programme in Christian approaches to Leadership and has been pioneering a programme for women leaders in the church. He has recently been commissioned to develop with Waverly Consultancy\, a leadership programme for the House of Bishops. He also teaches on a senior leader programme on the Unconscious in Organisations for the Institute of Advanced Learning at Oxford University\, and for the King’s Fund programme for senior Managers. He has shared in consultations and conferences in South Africa\, Canada and the U.S. \n Keith works with a systems approach to his work\, enriched over the years by his association with the Grubb Institute having worked as a consultant member of staff on their international Group Relations Conferences. For a number of years he taught on the psychodynamic Counselling Course validated by Oxford Brookes and sponsored by Counselling\, Consultancy Oxfordshire (CCO). \n Recently he has co-authored a book on supervision skills for those who work with the newly ordained\, and in 2012 SPCK published his latest book Finding Your Leadership Style.  \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Hearing God's Voice Through Selected Psalms
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Howard Peskett \n “Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a lamp to my path.” \n A missionary friend in North Thailand\, sensing a great darkness\, felt the Lord give her Psalm 62.  The next day she found her husband’s body and that of a friend on a lonely mountain track.  The psalms are the church’s oldest hymn book.  They have shone in dark ages\, times of reformation\, times of revival.  They have strengthened housewives\, soldiers\, the sick\, sailors\, scholars\, the housebound\, poets\, writers.  Psalm 83 was read in the Czech parliament in August 1968 as Russian tanks rumbled through the streets.  Psalm 27.1 is the motto of Oxford University.  Psalm 127.1 is engraved on the foundation of the Eddystone Lighthouse.  Bishop Ridley read Psalm 4.8 and slept well the night before he was burned.  On 28th October 1885 Bishop Hannington\, one of the first missionaries in Uganda\, wrote in his diary\, “I am quite broken down and brought low.  Comforted by Psalm 27.”  The next day he was hacked to pieces by the king’s soldiers. There are hundreds of other examples in Lord Ernle’s book\, The Psalms in Human Life\, published in 1909. \nThe habit of reading or singing the psalms in church has declined.  If we attended the principal Sunday service every Sunday for three years\, and read the psalm prescribed for that service from the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL)\, at the end of those 153 Sundays we would only have read 47 complete psalms; parts of 41 other psalms; and 62 psalms would have been entirely omitted. \nUnlike most song books\, the Psalms contain songs for every mood.  They are the heritage of the universal church\, our birthright.  On this study day\, we will: \n\nsurvey the whole book\, to feel its shape and texture;\ndig into five psalms\, all ones unused by the RCL: a praise psalm; a lament; a dark psalm; a cry for justice and a Messianic psalm;\nsing some psalm songs in various styles\, location permitting;\nlisten for and to the voice of God through these songs\, deepening our understanding of these songs as revelation from God through human experience.\n\nHoward Peskett is a retired priest living in Penzance\, formerly the Dean of the Discipleship Training Centre in Singapore; the Vice Principal of Trinity College Bristol; the Rural Dean of Penwith.  He has spent a lifetime encouraging men and women\, in Asia and in the UK\, to believe that they can themselves discover the meaning and the wonder of the Bible as they seek to love and follow Christ. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place. \n
