SUMMARY:The ZigZag Way
DESCRIPTION:Cornish Mining World Heritage Site\, Collective Arts Ltd & Trebiggan Productions present The ZigZag Way From the novel by Anita Desai and adapted for the stage by Pauline Sheppard. \n It’s 1910\, and young Cornish couple Betty and Davey travel to the gold and silver mines of Mexico\, unaware of the perils they will face. Aside from the mining itself\, there’s unrest between the natives and the incomers\, and a whiff of danger is in the air. Wind forward 100 years\, and Eric\, an uncertain young American\, arrives in Mexico on a curious quest for his Cornish roots\, unprepared for what he will find. Led by Huichol Indian guides\, he journeys to an old mining village on an unlikely path of self-discovery\, and soon finds himself in another world… \nThe Zigzag Way is a gripping story which winds through cultures and across time to paint a picture of love\, revolution and sacrifice. \nBlending humour with pathos and past with present\, this haunting and arresting tale finally leads you to a night where the veils that separate life and death are lifted and the illusion of time is broken: Dia de los Muertos – the Mexican Day of the Dead. \nCombining strong ensemble playing and physical inventiveness with a cracking tale\, this is story-telling at its most colourful\, visual and touching. \nHow to book tickets – you can book online or by telephone. \nhttp://www.crbo.co.uk/eventDetail.php?evGrp=349&evId=12430  (Monday\, 30 May) \nhttp://www.crbo.co.uk/eventDetail.php?evGrp=349&evId=12431  (Tuesday\, 31 May) \nOr telephone: 01726 879500

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Active and Reflective Kids
DESCRIPTION:Walking the way in partnership with young people: faith development and  worship in Playzone\, play areas and  outdoor spaces. \n with members of the Penlee Cluster \n Worshipping and exploring faith with young people is a privilege and challenge. This day will focus on using outdoor space and Playzone  as a means of exploring stories of faith and spirituality alongside youngsters. \nAs many of our schools develop new styles of immersive learning we consider what it might be to worship and develop spirituality though play and a sense of place. \nWe will also explore how we might use our church buildings differently so that youngsters can be physically active in them.  We will share our developing Playzone church story so far. What form might worship and story-telling take in such a setting? \nThis day does not set out a blueprint of how to worship with youngsters in a more active and physical way but will open up possibilities and questions of what you might explore in your own settings be it in church or school assemblies. \nThis interactive day might be of interest to all who lead worship or nurture the faith of young people either in churches\, schools or other settings. People attending this day will need to have DBS clearance as we will be working and reflecting alongside young people. \nThe day will be lead by staff in the Penlee cluster and some children from local schools.  It will take place in a number of venues around the Penzance area. People travelling to Penzance by train can be met at the railway station and lunch will be provided as part of the experience. \n10am Coffee and Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Dealing with conflicts in the church
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Canon Keith Lamdin \nPeople say that the church is conflict averse and clergy report that conflicts in church life cause them sleepless stress. \nThis day will explore: \n\nthe kinds of conflicts that emerge in church life\,\nwhy they take up so much energy; and\nstrategies for using conflicts to bring about change and creativity.\n\nThe Revd Canon Keith Lamdin was for 25 years the director of the Board for Stewardship\, Training\, Evangelism and Ministry in the diocese of Oxford\, where he managed a team of 14 trainers and consultants. He led the development of a competency-based modular programme\, validated by Oxford Brookes University\, at undergraduate and post graduate levels. He taught on the Master’s leadership modules. \n Keith then became Principal of Sarum College in Salisbury where he not only exercised a leadership role himself but also specialised in the professional development of clergy\, working as a consultant to senior clergy as well as to senior managers in the field of health care\, education and the voluntary sector. He has launched the MA programme in Christian approaches to Leadership and has been pioneering a programme for women leaders in the church. Keith has recently retired from his post of principal at Sarum and is now spending time helping clergy think about their leadership. \n Keith co-authored a book on supervision skills for those who work with the newly ordained\, and in 2012 SPCK published his latest book Finding Your Leadership Style. \nNote: This event is a joint CMED/IME Phase 2 (curates) session. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 3.30pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:Church Explorers - West Penwith
DESCRIPTION:Worker’s Educational Association (WEA) Courses for Adults Summer 2016 \nBuilding on classroom learning\, ‘Church Explorers West Penwith’ focuses on the churches of St Levan and St Buryan. St Levan was a chapelry of St Buryan and this is reflected in its simpler architecture and lop-sided plan\, but the quality of its bench ends is as good as any in Cornwall. St Buryan\, by contrast\, is a much larger and architecturally more ambitious church with an exceptional\, if inaccurately\, restored rood screen. This morning visit will involve looking more closely at the visual fabric and furnishings of two of West Penwith’s most interesting churches. \nCourse ID: C3527664\nTutor: Joanna Mattingly

SUMMARY:Church Explorers - Germoe & Breage
DESCRIPTION:Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) Courses for Adults 2016. \nGermoe and Breage are neighbouring churches but very different. Germoe was one of the chapelries of Breage (Cury and Gunwalloe being the others)\, and is a good place to study the architecture of a local saint’s cult. Breage\, the rather larger mother church\, has a complete three aisle plan\, transepts\, and a panneled porch of a West Cornwall-type and also contains the most complete set of wall paintings in Cornwall\, which again refer to local saints’ cults. This visit will focus on the art and architecture and compare the architectural fabric of each church. \nTutor: Joanna Mattingly\nFees: £7.50\nRef: C34/27665\nAll Enquiries: WEA 47 Lemon Street Truro TR1 2NS\nPhone: 01872 320036 Email: cornwalloffice@wea.org.uk\nEnrolments: Telephone Regional Office on 01392 457300 / 0845 458 2758
