SUMMARY:Zoltan Ensemble at St Endellion Church
DESCRIPTION:Zoltan Ensemble \nSunday 15th November\, 3pm at St Endellion Church \nZoltan\, an ensemble of extremely talented professional musicians\, always bring a delightful programme of chamber music for strings which shows their virtuoso playing abilities to the full \nThey welcome the return of Rosalind\, Lowri\, and Nancy\, regulars at the St Endellion summer music festival\, who will be joined by two friends and colleagues Laura Kernohan and Rose Redgrave\, to play two delightful string quintets at an afternoon concert in St Endellion. . \nMozart’s  String Quintet No.3 in C Major. \nThis colourful\, melodious piece is considered among the very greatest of Mozart’s chamber music masterpieces. The addition of the second viola clearly interested Mozart\, who was a viola player himself. \nBrahms String Quintet No.1 in F Major \nBrahms himself described this piece to his friend Clara Schumann as\, “one of (his) finest works.” Rarely performed\, consisting of 3 movements the piece opens in gloriously warm folk-like\, pastoral mood. Offering a rich tapestry of contrasts throughout\, ranging from intensely dramatic to lyrical and sweet we are promised a truly memorable experience. \nTea and cake will be served during the interval. \nTickets\, £10 (free to accompanied under-16s) \nTickets in advance can be purchased from the Endelienta website\, where you can pay by card or with a PayPal account\, click here and scroll down to Zoltan event.   Alternatively you can email: tickets@endelienta.org.uk\,  telephone 07787 944935 or call in at the Wadebridge Bookshop and pay by cash or cheque.

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Dealing With The Basic Issues Of Biblical Scholarship In Today's Church
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Canon Dr Stephen Dawes \nDealing with the basic issues of Biblical scholarship in today’s Church:  All priests\, ministers\, Readers and Local Preachers are trained in what we might call classic Biblical scholarship and have been for over a century.  Yet often when interested lay people are introduced to some of the mildest and most commonplace ideas of classic Biblical scholarship they ask ‘Why have we not heard this before?’  Why indeed.  This session will explore the gap between the classroom and the pulpit and the strange silence of a century of Biblical scholarship in today’s church.  It will work on the assumption that if the Church of England is to be true to Hooker and the Methodist Church to Wesley and Peake\, that dangerous gap must be closed. \n Stephen is a retired Methodist minister and Canon Theologian of Truro Cathedral. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Partnership Working
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Andrew Yates \nMany churches have discovered the benefits of working in partnership with others. Often with other churches but also working together with other agencies in both the statutory and voluntary sectors. \nSome are nervous that this can put at risk our Christian distinctiveness and others that our financial independence can become compromised. \nBut there are some excellent examples across the County of Churches’ Mission being enhanced by such partnerships and next October offers an opportunity to come and visit such good practice and discuss in depth some of the underlying issues. \n Andrew is the Diocesan Social Responsibility Officer and Priest in the Penlee Cluster. \nNote: this day is a repeat of the day held on 15th and 23rd October. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition by Bridget Braybrooks
DESCRIPTION:Presently at ST. Mary’s\, PZ we have an art exhibition by Bridget Braybrooks. (Rev. Bridget Macaulay) \nThe exhibition opened on Friday night the 24th October and was a resounding success with 12 out of the 19 pictures selling. \nThe collection has been inspired by a 17 century poem by George Herbert. \nIt has been created using the ancient method known as Encaustic which involves using a mix of beeswax\, damar resin and pigment to create an almost ethereal image. \nEach of the pictures expresses a specific line in the poem. \nFurther to Bridget’s artistic expression her Spirit has been further inspired as she  worked and she has written some very beautiful words which open the picture and allow people to enter into the spirit of the poem. \nThe exhibition ends Nov 7th and is really worth experiencing.

\nAndrew is the Diocesan Social Responsibility Officer and Priest in the Penlee Cluster. \nNote: this day is a repeat of the day held on 15th October. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:Falmouth Filling Station
DESCRIPTION:  \nA new way of exploring the Christian faith has come to the Falmouth at the Penmorvah Manor Hotel\, Budock Water in the form of a ‘Filling Station’ meeting. \nThis is a new form of worship designed for people who feel a spiritual need for God but may feel that for some reason\, they can’t come to church. It has been found that The Filling Station will fulfil their needs. \nThese are a new cafe-style Christian celebrations which take place in venues such as village halls\, converted barns\, hotels & cafes across the country. They are relaxed and informal gatherings on a week day evening and give a different style of Christian experience. \nThe Filling Station movement was founded in a village in Wiltshire in 2006 and the new Falmouth Area Filling Station is the 52nd Filling Station to be set up across the UK\, France\, South Africa\, Canada and Switzerland; it is the first in Cornwall. Many leaders from a variety of Christian communities including Falmouth\, are excited about what they bring to an area. Over 2\,500 people attend a Filling Station gathering somewhere each month. \nThe Falmouth Area Filling Station will take place on the 3rd Monday of a month\, starting at 7.30pm. The gatherings will include celebration\, learning about being a Christian\, personal experience\, reflection and discussion as well as high quality refreshments and fellowship. The meetings are free and open to all. \nCharles Neate\, of the team hosting the meetings\, said ‘In a culture more familiar with cafes than Gothic church buildings\, we are presenting the central core of our Christian faith in a manner\, and unusual location that will appeal to a lot of people outside the traditional church’. \nFor more information contact Mr Charles Neate on: 01326 372742 or visit: thefillingstation.org.uk and look for the ‘Falmouth’ web page.

SUMMARY:CMED Course- Discovering The Big Story Of The Bible And Our Part In It
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Howard Peskett \n“As the rain and snow come down from heaven\, and do not return there but water the earth\, making it bring forth and sprout\, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater\, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty\, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose\, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”  (Isaiah 55.10\,11). \nWhat is this large book which all Christians treasure but so few Christians read?  John Wesley wrote\, “I want to know the way to heaven; God has written it down in a book.  Oh\, give me that book!  At any price give me the book of God!”  George Whitefield found light and life and power from above when he “.. began to read the Holy Scriptures upon my knees\, laying aside all other books and praying over\, if possible\, every line and word.  This proved meat indeed and drink indeed to my soul.”  John Keble wrote of the bible\, “Who that hath felt thy glance of dread/ Thrill through his heart’s remotest cells\,/ About his path\, about his bed\,/ Can doubt what Spirit in thee dwells!” \nOn this study day we will helicopter over the whole terrain of scripture.  We will study the shape of the bible\, especially the Old Testament.  We will study the place of Jesus Christ as the focus of prophetic testimony and apostolic witness.  We will summarise the process by which these 66 books have come to have a unique authority for Protestant Christians (with a brief side-glance to the Apocrypha).  We will discuss how today we can live within the Bible’s great\, continuing story; how we can inhabit this story; how we can perform this drama; how we are ourselves (or not) the greatest translation of scripture as it becomes visible in our lives.  And finally we will choose our own TWELVE WORDS to summarise the great story of the bible\, which we can use as we seek to share the good news (the gospel) with others. \nAugustine said\, “We understand not by active intellect at work on the OBJECT but by contemplative turning\, by love\, desire and delight.”  This is the spirit in which we will approach this day. \nHoward Peskett is a retired priest living in Penzance\, formerly the Dean of the Discipleship Training Centre in Singapore; the Vice Principal of Trinity College Bristol; the Rural Dean of Penwith.  He has spent a lifetime encouraging men and women\, in Asia and in the UK\, to believe that they can themselves discover the meaning and the wonder of the Bible as they seek to love and follow Christ. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place. \n
