SUMMARY:CMED Course - Active and Reflective Kids
DESCRIPTION:Walking the way in partnership with young people: faith development and  worship in Playzone\, play areas and  outdoor spaces. \n with members of the Penlee Cluster \n Worshipping and exploring faith with young people is a privilege and challenge. This day will focus on using outdoor space and Playzone  as a means of exploring stories of faith and spirituality alongside youngsters. \nAs many of our schools develop new styles of immersive learning we consider what it might be to worship and develop spirituality though play and a sense of place. \nWe will also explore how we might use our church buildings differently so that youngsters can be physically active in them.  We will share our developing Playzone church story so far. What form might worship and story-telling take in such a setting? \nThis day does not set out a blueprint of how to worship with youngsters in a more active and physical way but will open up possibilities and questions of what you might explore in your own settings be it in church or school assemblies. \nThis interactive day might be of interest to all who lead worship or nurture the faith of young people either in churches\, schools or other settings. People attending this day will need to have DBS clearance as we will be working and reflecting alongside young people. \nThe day will be lead by staff in the Penlee cluster and some children from local schools.  It will take place in a number of venues around the Penzance area. People travelling to Penzance by train can be met at the railway station and lunch will be provided as part of the experience. \n10am Coffee and Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:The ZigZag Way
DESCRIPTION:Cornish Mining World Heritage Site\, Collective Arts Ltd & Trebiggan Productions present The ZigZag Way From the novel by Anita Desai and adapted for the stage by Pauline Sheppard. \nIt’s 1910\, and young Cornish couple Betty and Davey travel to the gold and silver mines of Mexico\, unaware of the perils they will face. Aside from the mining itself\, there’s unrest between the natives and the incomers\, and a whiff of danger is in the air. Wind forward 100 years\, and Eric\, an uncertain young American\, arrives in Mexico on a curious quest for his Cornish roots\, unprepared for what he will find. Led by Huichol Indian guides\, he journeys to an old mining village on an unlikely path of self-discovery\, and soon finds himself in another world… \nThe Zigzag Way is a gripping story which winds through cultures and across time to paint a picture of love\, revolution and sacrifice. \nBlending humour with pathos and past with present\, this haunting and arresting tale finally leads you to a night where the veils that separate life and death are lifted and the illusion of time is broken: Dia de los Muertos – the Mexican Day of the Dead. \nCombining strong ensemble playing and physical inventiveness with a cracking tale\, this is story-telling at its most colourful\, visual and touching. \nHow to book tickets – you can book online or by telephone. \nhttp://www.crbo.co.uk/eventDetail.php?evGrp=349&evId=12430  (Monday\, 30 May) \nhttp://www.crbo.co.uk/eventDetail.php?evGrp=349&evId=12431  (Tuesday\, 31 May) \nOr telephone: 01726 879500

SUMMARY:Flower Festival St. Andrews Church\, Stratton
DESCRIPTION:St. Andrew’s Church\, Stratton FLOWER FESTIVAL 2016 \nTheme: Once Upon a Time … Stories From Childhood. \nFlowers\, Fairies\, Fact\, Fiction\, Fascination and Fantasy \nA Festival that promises to be a delight for the imagination and for the memories – for the young and old alike. \nThere will be the classical stories which form part of our literary heritage and the modern novel with its futuristic and fantastical features. \nThe Festival will run over four days from Friday May 27th to Monday May 30th inclusive. Entrance is free and the opening times from 10am to 5pm. each day except Sunday when we open a little later\, at noon and everyone is more than welcome to join us for our special service at 6pm. \nRefreshments\, including morning coffee\, light lunches and afternoon cream teas\, will be available every day. We try to make sure that everything we offer\, as far as possible\, is homemade. So\, come and enjoy. Who knows\, there just might be an invitation to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party! \nThe success of the festival depends not only on the floral displays and stalls but also on the generosity of many sponsors and the skill and willingness of lots of flower arrangers.  If\, on reading this\, you feel the urge to come and help and be part of the festival please contact the co-ordinator Lyzette Bevan. Her telephone number is 01288 359811 and she would love to hear from you. \nDeirdre Varley has kindly offered to host a Coffee Morning on Wednesday April 20th to help raise some funds for administration and other expenses. \nMost importantly though\, we need people to visit the Flower Festival to enjoy all that it has to offer including the glorious church building\, its ambience and the welcome and fellowship to be found there. So\, tell all your friends and relations about it and get them to come along. \nAll proceeds are for St. Andrew’s Church and as this is one of our major fundraising activities we hope lots of people will come to visit and give us their support.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Appreciative Inquiry and Your Ministry
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Kathryn Price \nThe church is a mystery to embrace rather than a problem to be solved \nAppreciative Inquiry is based on the idea of discovering what works and gives life to an organisation and building the organisation on these life giving properties. \nThrough using Appreciative Inquiry in churches we discover”  What in God’s name is going on here” and then designing the church structure and programmes to enable more of these Godly things to be done and participated in. \nThe United Reformed Church has begun to use Appreciative Inquiry in different parts of its life – to review and evaluate\, plan change and growth and to counter the tendency of churches to focus on the negative. \nKathryn has been using AI for a couple of years now – to help churches identify their own mission\, as a research tool and in daily life.  This day will introduce the principles of Appreciative Inquiry and give examples of how it can be used to transform your ministry in ways both simple and profound. \nRevd Kathryn Price has 18 years of URC ministry experience\, serving local churches\, an ecumenical group\, national committees and is now Education & Learning Enabler for the South Western Synod.  She has also recently undergone \nextensive training with Appreciating People\, the URC’s partner in developing Appreciative Inquiry in the United Reformed Church. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish.  \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Encountering and dealing with requests for the ministry of deliverance
DESCRIPTION:With Revd Jem Thorold \n‘Jesus\, in his life\, suffering and death\, and in his resurrection and ascension defeated evil and brought\nthe hope of salvation to everyone. \nSo we can be confident that when we pray the Lord’s Prayer for deliverance from evil\, God hears us\, and that praying with people for their needs and protection is often an appropriate way of ministering to them. \nSome people\, however\, seek specific help when going through times of suffering and anxiety\, or when distressed by what seem to be continuing experiences of evil within them or around them. \nFor these people\, it may be right to ask for God’s saving help through the Church’s deliverance ministry. ‘ \n(The House of Bishops’ Guidelines for Good Practice in the Deliverance Ministry 1975 (revised 2012) \nWe will explore together how to respond\, minister to\, collaborate with others and record requests for the Ministry of Deliverance. \nLooking at Best Practice – Safeguarding – Our own protection and prayer life. \nRevd Jem Thorold is the Chaplain to the Bishop’s and the ‘Gatekeeper’ for the Ministry of Deliverance. \n10am Coffee and Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Ecology and Your Church
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Andrew Yates \n“For the Church of the 21st century\, good ecology is not an optional extra but a matter of justice. It is therefore central to what it means to be a Christian.”  Dr Rowan Williams\, former Archbishop of Canterbury. \nThe Church of England remains committed to a carbon reduction target of 80% by 2050\, with an interim target of 42% by 2020.  Leading up to Environment Sunday this study day will offer advice and suggestions on how this might be achieved in your church with examples of good practice around the county.  Environment Issues go much wider than carbon reduction so we will also be looking at Living Churchyards\, Creation Liturgies and other resources. \nAndrew is the Diocesan Social Responsibility Officer and Priest in the Penlee Cluster. \n10am Coffee and Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.
