SUMMARY:Thomas Cranmer Commemoration Service
DESCRIPTION:In the final years of Henry VIII’s reign\, Thomas Cranmer\, the Archbishop of Canterbury\, conceived and wrote the original Book of Common Prayer. \nAfter the accession of the Catholic Mary I\, Cranmer was put on trial for treason and heresy. Imprisoned for over two years and under pressure from Church authorities\, he made several recantations and apparently reconciled himself with the Catholic Church. \nWhile this would have normally absolved him\, Mary wanted him executed\, and\, on the day of his execution\, he withdrew his recantations\, to die a heretic to Catholics and a martyr for the principles of the English Reformation \nOne year after his death in 1547\, Parliament enacted the Act of Uniformity and for the first time England had its first\, single church service\, set out in the Book of Common Prayer. \nFor over 350 years the Book of Common Prayer has been the bedrock service book for the Anglican Church. \nIn March every year\, the Prayer Book Society commemorates the martyrdom of Thomas Cranmer and this year\, a special Choral BCP Service of Holy Communion will be held in Truro Cathedral at 5pm on Wednesday 22 March\, led by the Cathedral Choir\, preacher Father Simon Robinson. \nThis will be preceded by tea and biscuits at 3.30pm and\, at 4pm\, a talk by Revd Professor Andrew Lewis\, entitled ‘The Prayer Book Revolt and its Effect on the Cornish Language’. \nIt is a very special occasion and it is open to anyone who would like to attend. \nFor poster see here:  Cranmer day summary poster 23.03.23

SUMMARY:Walk & Talk Audit at St Andrew’s Church\, Clinton Road\, Redruth TR15 2LL
DESCRIPTION:Net Zero 2030 series: Cut Carbon\, Cut Costs workshops \nThe Diocese of Truro is running a series of five workshops on the theme of Net Zero 2030: Cut Carbon\, Cut Costs. The series is a mix of online and in-person sessions. You are welcome to join us for one\, some or all of the series. Please book each workshop separately. \nOverview \nOur second session will see us meeting together in a Cornish church with Matt Fulford\, Director of Inspired Efficiency and an experienced senior advisor on energy\, carbon and sustainability issues. Matt will take us on a ‘walk and talk’ around the building\, including using a drone to explore hard to reach areas such as the roof and boiler room. There will also be presentations to listen to as we build our knowledge and understanding of how to conduct audits and complete efficiency audits of our buildings. This session is especially recommended for church wardens. \nThe Diocese of Truro has over 300 church buildings\, 86% of which are listed and subject to the Faculty Jurisdiction Rules.  The changes to the Faculty rules have made gaining permission for certain Net Zero Carbon matters easier (with appropriate conditions) but permissions are still/may be required so always check with the DAC Secretary. \nBook your place HERE
