SUMMARY:Songs for Earth Service
DESCRIPTION:Pupils of Cornish Schools and members of the county youth choir will all perform at a special service in November to celebrate our planet and the children who are fighting for it. \nThe Songs for Earth Service will be held in Truro Cathedral\, November 17th at 2pm. \nThe children are being invited to meet from 1.15pm on Lemon Quay and march to the cathedral with their banners. Diocese of Truro Environment Officer\, Luci Isaacson\, said: “many people are wondering what exactly they can do themselves to help the climate. If that sounds familiar\, why not come along to this cathedral service that celebrates the gift of creation and the actions of many across the whole Diocese of Truro”. \n“School choirs from across the county will process through Truro to join us\, and together we will sing Songs for Earth to highlight our opportunity to make change. This event will help us all galvanise our passion into much-needed action – to reduce our carbon emissions and enjoy learning what we can all do.” \nAs well as the schools and county youth choir taking part\, the event is being held in conjunction with the Cornwall Federation of WIs (CFWI). \nThe federation was represented on the original steering group for the cathedral’s Footsteps to Copenhagen Project that led to the creation of the Ten Pledges\, which have been adopted by hundreds of people across the diocese. \n“I hope the service will be an inspiration to children and adults alike\,” said Luci. “Many people feel the desire to help the environment\, but are unsure of what to do. The Ten Pledges gives everybody a starting point\, some relatively easy\, straightforward and everyday ways to help the environment.” \n

DESCRIPTION:The Lambeth Conference 2020: The Past and Future of the Anglican Communion \nA Lecture by the Canon Theologian  \nWith the Lambeth Conference of all the Bishops from the Anglican Communion coming up next summer\, it seems like a good idea to look at the history of the Conference and\, more importantly\, about what it’s for nowadays and how it relates to the Church of England both nationally and locally. Since 1998 the Conference has revealed the huge and apparently irreconcilable tensions across the Communion over sexuality. Some are predicting that 2020 may even be the last Lambeth Conference! The Revd Professor Mark David Chapman\, Canon Theologian at Truro Cathedral will nevertheless try to offer his own thoughts about plotting a route through the current difficulties – “we have after all solved apparently irreconcilable differences before and we can probably do so again.” \nFriday 6th December\, 7pm for a 7:30pm start. \n£5 on the door in the Chapter House. Does silence help us to remember who we are in a noisy world\, or is it a way of evading uncomfortable truths?’ There will be an opportunity to ponder these questions\, and others in a reflective day\, ‘The Place of Silence’. \nLed by Revd Jonathan Mosedale on Saturday 15th February 2020\, in St Endellion Church. The day will also involve reflecting on our own experiences of silence\, looking to the rich inheritance of Christian practice and theology\, to help us answer these questions. \nThe day will begin at 10am with coffee in the St Endellion Hall and will finish at 3pm. Please bring a packed lunch. \n£10 per person.
