DESCRIPTION:‘Dr Will Lamb will explore the way in which the language of the Book of Revelation has shaped the theological imagination in literature and poetry\, film\, music and art. The Book of Revelation has been described as the Bible’s ‘prime visionary text’ and a charter for “the Principle of Hope”. It can offer a radical and subversive perspective on situations of oppression and evil. It can inspire a renewed hope in God’s gracious purposes for the whole of creation. But its legacy is ambiguous. This same book has also been interpreted in ways that appear to collude with violence\, terror and oppression. SUMMARY:Truro Theological Lecture in the Chapter House
DESCRIPTION:The Rev’d Magdalen Smith is currently Diocesan Director of Ordinands for the Diocese of Chester. She grew up in Truro where her father was Canon Chancellor of Truro Cathedral and a writer himself. Her lecture is entitled ‘Reclaiming a Prayerful Life: Inspiration for Contemporary Christians’. \nWhether we consider ourselves mature people of faith or absolute beginners many of us struggle with the question of how to pray. Magdalen Smith explores the question of what we are trying to do when we pray and develops this by looking at a variety of ideas which are and can be embedded in our own lived-out lives. Concepts like ‘still’\, ‘gaze’\, ‘flux’\, ‘thank’\, ‘dark’ and ‘shed’ explore traditional concepts of existential holy living with a contemporary spin\, which simultaneously become prophetic ways of defining a Christian identity in both a secular and spiritually inquisitive age.” \n7pm for 7.30pm \nTickets on the door £4 which includes the provision of a glass of wine or juice.

SUMMARY:Mothering Sunday - St Stephen in Brannel
DESCRIPTION:Mothering Sunday\, or Mother’s Day is such a special time. Traditionally families would worship together to give thanks for their mothers at their ‘Mother Church’\, give gifts of flowers\, and have a feast mid-way through Lent. This is why Mothering Sunday is sometimes known as ‘refreshment Sunday’ – any Lenten fasts can be broken.  Bring mum\, grandma and the children for a special Mothering Sunday Service at 9.30am at St George’s or 11am at St Stephen. We’ll bring the flowers! The services will be short to allow plenty of time for a family lunch out or time together. Here are some ideas from the Christenings website for celebrating Mothering Sunday at home and at church. DESCRIPTION:Rays of Hope – Led by Alison Adam of the Iona Community \nThe Iona Community believe in social justice and help those in need. Within their area there are many groups who provide an outreach to the community and they hope to create a visual display celebrating the many opportunities to show ‘Our Rays of Hope’ shining within their area. \nThe event will be held at St Mary’s Church in Penzance from the 6th of May to the 7th of May and will be led by Alison Adam of the Iona Community. During the weekend she will lead a Big Sing on the Saturday afternoon from 2pm and with a service to follow on the theme of ‘Rays of Hope’.
