SUMMARY:Mendelssohn's Elijah
DESCRIPTION:Three Spires Singers and Truro Choral Society present Mendelssohn’s Elijah \n‘A rare opportunity to hear the combined forces of two large choirs and big orchestra performing this much-loved work by a famous and popular composer. The Oratorio\, which is sung in English\, takes its words from the Old Testament of the Bible to tell the story of the prophet Elijah. It is an intensely dramatic work at times\, with the noise and fury of crowds and warring Gods\, for example\, or the ascent of a fiery chariot into heaven\, portrayed in stirring and colourful music from orchestra and chorus. There are contemplative\, beautiful moments too\, such as the resurrection of a dead youth\, or the coming of rain after a deadly drought.’ \nConsisting off four vocal soloists – bass-baritone\, tenor\, alto and soprano. Each have memorably tuneful arias as well as sometimes combining in duets\, trios and quartets. The work contains melodies\, dramatic scenes\, and wonderfully tender moments. There will also be four soloists – Christopher Cull\, Alexander James Edwards\, Catherine Carby and Anita Watson. SUMMARY:Feast Week at St Stephen
DESCRIPTION:St Stephen Church are celebrating Feast Week with a Feast Service on Sunday 6th August\, 11:00am. The preacher for the service will be Revd Steve Payne and there will be a pasty lunch for everyone following the service. The choir will be singing on Feast Sunday to help lead the celebrations and will sing an anthem\, rehearsals will be held every Wednesday from the 12th of July\, with a 5:45pm start. All ages welcome. \nA Church Fete will be held on Tuesday the 8th of August\, following Feast Sunday. The Church fete will be opened by James Churchfield from Radio Cornwall at 6:00pm. All items for stalls or the raffle\, or any help will be much appreciated. \nCelebrations continue throughout the week.
