DESCRIPTION:Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) Courses for Adults 2016. \nGermoe and Breage are neighbouring churches but very different. Germoe was one of the chapelries of Breage (Cury and Gunwalloe being the others)\, and is a good place to study the architecture of a local saint’s cult. Breage\, the rather larger mother church\, has a complete three aisle plan\, transepts\, and a panneled porch of a West Cornwall-type and also contains the most complete set of wall paintings in Cornwall\, which again refer to local saints’ cults. DESCRIPTION:with Revd Charles Burgess \nMany in church leadership know that shaping culture is what is required in their context\, but shaping culture is perhaps the most difficult leadership challenge. How do you shape culture but not trash the past? How do you shape culture and not impose personal preferences? How do you change culture and ensure it is lasting and not just until you leave? Combining a strong model for shaping culture with practical tools\, this day explores the questions: \n\nWhat is culture and how is it related to vision?\nWhat sort of culture do you currently have?\nHow can you bring about culture change?\n\nCharles is a leadership specialist with CPAS. He has many years of practical leadership experience both from a career in the RAF and\, in the last seven years\, through his role with CPAS. CPAS currently work with over 20 dioceses in supporting them as they seek to build and strengthen a culture of collaborative leadership\, including developing and enabling vision\, changing culture\, building teams and developing missional leadership. To this end\, Charles facilitates various leadership development events across the UK\, from individual days to longer-term programmes. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 16th July 2016\, Truro Cathedral is to host a Service to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the formation of the St.Petroc’s Society. \nFormed in 1986 at the instigation of the then Bishop of St.Germans ( Bishop Llewellin)\, who responded to the increased numbers of single homeless across Cornwall by creating a charity that would engage and work with all those\, who had no place to call home. \nSt.Petroc’s has retained it’s close links with churches of all denominations with the current Bishop of St.Germans ( Bishop Chris Goldsmith) who is the Society President and the Bishop of Plymouth ( Bishop Mark O’Toole) and President of the Methodist Conference (Rev. Steven Wild) are vice Presidents.

DESCRIPTION:with Revd Howard Peskett \nHow beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings\, who publishes peace\, who brings good tidings of good\, who publishes salvation\, who says to Zion\, “Your God reigns!” \nWhenever I read these words I think of a missionary friend who told me that they first came home to his heart when he buried a young Cambodian boy by the side of a track near a refugee camp in Thailand; the boy had died after becoming sick when he returned to his country during the Khmer Rouge times to tell the people in his village about Jesus. \nIn this workshop we will dig into the text of six exhilarating chapters of Isaiah\, in the very heart of the book\, chapters 50 to 55.  Isaiah is not the longest book of the Old Testament (there are five books which are longer); but it is the most quoted in the New Testament (412 times\, according to my computation from my Greek New Testament).  The chapters we will study include the most famous of the five Servant Songs in Isaiah; the text of a famous sermon by William Carey which was hugely significant at the beginning of the modern Western missionary movement; and two unforgettable chapters about the character and the mission of the church. \nBecause every day we are deluged with information pouring into our house through the postbox and electronically\, we are forced to “surf” through all this material\, selecting what interests us or what matters. There is a danger that we bring this surfing mindset to our bible-reading also.  We can see similar behavior if we visit an art gallery – there are many people who hurry past the pictures\, giving them a cursory glance.  But connoisseurs (and devotees) enjoy every intricate detail; they sit and stare; and then stand up and look again from a different angle; then they go away and come back again…. \nIn this workshop we will pay close attention to Isaiah’s words\, which have not lost their resonance although written long ago.  Through this calm attentiveness we will refresh our souls for ministry and mission; and we will receive help to go on trusting God through troubled times. \n Howard Peskett is a retired priest living in Penzance\, formerly the Dean of the Discipleship Training Centre in Singapore; the Vice Principal of Trinity College Bristol; the Rural Dean of Penwith.  He has spent a lifetime encouraging men and women\, in Asia and in the UK\, to believe that they can themselves discover the meaning and the wonder of the Bible as they seek to love and follow Christ. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish \nClick here to book a place.
