SUMMARY:CMED Course - Priestly Authority
DESCRIPTION:with Rt Revd Tim Thornton \nOn what do we place our authority as those who are ordained and how do we continue to shape our understanding of authority?  One of the implications for the Anglican Methodist Covenant is to ask the Church of England to look again at the possibility of the mutual recognition of ministries.  On this day Bishop Tim will explore some of the traditional understandings of priesthood and enable those present to reflect on why they believe as they do and on what theological presuppositions views are held. \nThe day is open to all whether ordained or not and will especially focus on the different views on ordination between Anglicans and Methodists. \nBishop Tim is the Bishop of Truro. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 3pm Finish  \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:Canon Sings St Mark's Gospel
DESCRIPTION:Canon Alan Rowell has found a particular ministry in singing\, from memory\, his own translation of St Mark’s Gospel. \nThe performance takes just under two hours\, including a tea-break half-way through.  There are obvious advantages for Christians in hearing the whole Gospel story in one go.  It has also roused interest in those who normally give little thought to the Christian Faith. \nAlan has performed in churches\, homes\, and several times out-doors!  He prefers smallish numbers\, being easier to relate to all present.\nHis next performance is in Truro Cathedral 6pm Sunday 6th March. Alan can also be contacted at canonrowell@outlook.com\, or 075 999 471 08.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Preaching the Old Testament
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Canon Dr Stephen Dawes \nAs we all know\, the Old Testament has an image problem and it is rarely a preacher’s first choice for the sermon. Given some of the OT readings in the Lectionary\, that is understandable. But neglecting the OT in the pulpit makes matters worse\, misses the chance to explain stuff that can usefully be explained\, and may even mean that the fuller sense of the NT readings is not seen. So this study day will look at how to avoid the preaching pitfalls and make the most of the preaching opportunities offered by the Old Testament. If anyone wants to suggest that we look at any particular lectionary set of readings\, please let me know in advance (dawes5@phonecoop.coop) and we can include such a look. \nStephen is a retired Methodist minister and Canon Theologian of Truro Cathedral. \n10am Coffee\, 10.30am Start\, 4pm Finish.  \nClick here to book a place.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Meeting Christ Through Art

SUMMARY:'Godspell' at St Pertoc's Church\, Padstow
DESCRIPTION:St. Petroc’s Church\, Padstow has it’s own musical theatre group “Petroc Praise” who\, every other year\, put on a production in the Church as part of the Church’s outreach and fundraising programme of events. \nThis year they will be performing the hit religious musical “GODSPELL” which is closely based upon the words of St Matthew’s Gospel with songs based upon the 1940 Episcopal Hymnal. \nThis year “Petroc Praise” reprise “GODSPELL” for one very good reason – Fr. Chris Malkinson\, the Vicar of Padstow\, retires next year and has asked for one more performance before he goes.  So\, for four nights\, from 16th to 19th of March\, St. Petroc’s Church Padstow will\, again\, be resounding to the voices and music of “Petroc Praise” telling the story of the Bible to packed audiences. \nClick here for the poster.

SUMMARY:CMED Course - Ecology and Your Church
DESCRIPTION:with Revd Andrew Yates \n“For the Church of the 21st century\, good ecology is not an optional extra but a matter of justice. It is therefore central to what it means to be a Christian.”  Dr Rowan Williams\, former Archbishop of Canterbury. \nThe Church of England remains committed to a carbon reduction target of 80% by 2050\, with an interim target of 42% by 2020.  Leading up to Rogation Sunday and Rogationtide this study day will offer advice and suggestions on how this might be achieved in your church with examples of good practice around the county.  Environment Issues go much wider than carbon reduction so we will also be looking at Living Churchyards\, Creation Liturgies and other resources. \nAndrew is the Diocesan Social Responsibility Officer and Priest in the Penlee Cluster. \n10am Coffee and Start\, 4pm Finish. \nClick here to book a place.
